We're looking for a Java Engineer to join our DHA EIDS team, building and maintaining the backend services and integrations that power enterprise health data delivery across the Military Health System.

What you'll be doing:

  • Design and develop backend services and APIs in Java (Java 11/17+) and .NET (ASP.NET Core / .NET 6+)
  • Build and maintain REST APIs and microservices using Spring Boot and ASP.NET Core
  • Work across the full backend stack including business logic, data access, and API integrations
  • Write clean, well-tested code using JUnit, xUnit/NUnit, and test-driven development practices
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code or Cursor to accelerate delivery while maintaining code quality and security
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices using Git, GitHub Actions, or similar tooling
  • Participate in code reviews, technical design, and Agile ceremonies

What you’ll bring:

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience
  • Strong Java proficiency with hands-on experience in modern Java and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, JPA/Hibernate)
  • .NET development experience including C#, ASP.NET Core, and Web API development
  • Proficiency in SQL and relational databases such as MS SQL Server or Oracle
  • Experience with unit and integration testing frameworks
  • Demonstrated experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor for development tasks
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or AWS is a plus
  • Understanding of federal security and compliance requirements is a plus
  • Thrives in a remote, collaborative Agile environment and genuinely enjoys working closely with a cross-functional team
  • Communicates clearly and openly, whether in a code review or a cross-team planning session
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
