Virta Health is on a mission to reverse metabolic disease in one billion people. Current treatment approaches aren’t working—over half of US adults have either type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, and obesity rates are at an all-time high. Virta is changing this by helping people reverse their metabolic condition through innovations in technology, personalized nutrition, and virtual care delivery reinvented from the ground up. We have raised over $350 million from top-tier investors, and partner with the largest health plans, employers, and government organizations to help their employees and members restore their health and take back their lives. Join us on our mission to reverse metabolic disease in one billion people.

As a Health Coach at Virta, you’ll work directly with Virta members to support weight loss and reverse metabolic disease. We're looking for enthusiastic, highly motivated individuals to join our top-notch, mission-driven team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based nutrition and behavior change coaching, using behavior change principles to help members improve their metabolic health. Guide members in understanding how nutrition, daily habits, and health data, including metabolic markers, work together to inform personalized decisions and sustainable lifestyle change.

  • Deliver high-quality, personalized coaching through chat and telephonic interactions that engages members, supports lasting behavior change, and helps them achieve meaningful health outcomes.

  • Help members interpret their health data, including nutrition, metabolic markers, and other available insights, to better understand their body's response to lifestyle changes, build confidence, and make informed decisions about their health.

  • Empathize, connect, and partner with members to support long-term success and sustainable behavior change.

  • Keep members engaged and support retention by using quality coaching techniques, including motivational interviewing and member-centered goal setting.

  • Follow established clinical workflows and processes while accurately documenting member interactions, outreach, and progress.

  • Collaborate with Virta Providers and other members of the care team to deliver seamless, tailored care that promotes member safety and success.

  • Demonstrate Virta's values by taking ownership of your work and contributing to the success of the team.

  • Thrive in a fast-paced, evolving, and often ambiguous environment, adapting quickly to changing priorities, processes, and new information.

90 Day Plan

Within your first 90 days at Virta, we expect you will do the following:

  • Complete onboarding training to gain proficiency in navigating tools and resources, understanding the fundamentals of Virta’s approach for improving metabolic health, mastering member onboarding and engagement strategies, and effectively applying behavior change coaching techniques to drive member success.

  • Start working with your own Virta members, including conducting member onboarding calls and day-to-day member care.

  • Learn the various platforms and tools needed to perform your day-to-day job.

  • Learn and understand what key performance indicators (KPIs) are used to track health coach performance and how your day-to-day work impacts those metrics.

  • Actively contribute to team culture, learning, and overall process improvements by providing regular continuous feedback.

  • Take time to connect with and proactively get to know fellow Virtans; various leaders, teammates, teams, and roles. Learn, adopt, support, and help live out the Virtan Values.

Must-Haves

  • 2 years of experience working with patients directly to create plans and set goals; including but not limited to chronic condition/metabolic health coaching, outpatient nutrition counseling, motivational interviewing, community health, weight loss and/or bariatric centers, using and/or implementing various behavior change techniques, health counseling, mental health counseling, etc.

  • Health coaching experience OR recent completion of a coaching program, ideally NBHWC or ICF.

  • Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or advanced degree in a health, behavioral health, or other related field.

Virta Health (operating under virtahealth.com, legally Virta Health, Inc.) is the premier, enterprise-grade technology-enabled virtual medical clinic, metabolic health pioneer, and chronic disease reversal powerhouse engineered to act as the definitive, high-velocity type 2 diabetes reversal, sustainable weight loss, and provider-led care management layer for commercial employers, health plans, and government benefits programs across all 50 U.S. states. Founded by serial tech entrepreneur Sami Inkinen (co-founder of Trulia) alongside world-renowned metabolic research physicians Dr. Stephen Phinney and Dr. Jeff Volek, the company completely eliminates the severe systemic friction of modern metabolic care—where legacy healthcare models merely focus on treating symptoms, locking patients into lifelong dependencies on expensive pharmaceuticals, and draining enterprise budgets on escalating GLP-1 medications and insulin therapies—by deploying a sophisticated, evidence-based nutrition-first operating matrix. Moving far beyond traditional, passive telehealth consultation portals or generic weight-loss apps, Virta natively unifies continuous remote medical oversight from licensed specialists, personalized biomarker-driven carbohydrate restriction coaching, automated cellular-connected health monitoring devices (including smart scales and continuous blood glucose/ketone meters), and clinical medication deprescribing pipelines into a single high-availability population health platform. Backed by peer-reviewed clinical data demonstrating that its individualized, fat-fueled metabolic training drives a 22% reduction in HbA1c levels alongside the elimination of over 84% of required insulin dosages for compliant cohorts, the firm transforms enterprise healthcare spend with complete outcomes-based financial guarantees. Valued as an elite industry unicorn at $2 billion and generating over $160 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR), the organization is supported by more than $370 million in elite institutional venture capital—anchored by monumental financing matrices from Tiger Global Management, D1 Capital Partners, Venrock, Founders Fund, and Creandum. Under the hood, its technology core utilizes advanced predictive risk stratification algorithms, real-time biomarker analytics engines, and secure HIPAA-compliant cross-platform synchronization pipelines built to safely transition high-risk members off hazardous pharmaceutical dependencies without losing field operational velocity. What sets Virta Health apart is its uncompromising dedication to replacing passive chronic disease management with absolute metabolic reversal predictability, peer-reviewed clinical validation, and pharmaceutical cost-containment velocity; by bridging the gap between performance-intensive structural data analytics and immediate frontline human wellness, the enterprise remains the category-defining cornerstone of modern algorithmic digital therapeutics and global healthcare transformation.
