Full Stack Engineer, Product Platform

Core Responsibilities

We are looking for a Full Stack Engineer to own the platform foundations everything else at Nametag is built on.

This role focuses on the substrate: the data model, Postgres layer, public APIs our customers build against, multi-region architecture for data residency, and governance machinery for data handling.

Key Responsibilities

Own the data layer:

• Design and manage Postgres schema, migrations, indexing, query performance, and operational health.
• Develop data models ensuring tenant isolation and data classification are structural.
• Execute migrations on live systems without downtime or data loss.

Build data governance:

• Implement retention, deletion, and minimization as enforced mechanisms.
• Ensure compliance reaches derived data, replicas, caches, and backups.
• Build access control and audit logging for sensitive data.
• Partner with security and GRC to translate compliance obligations into technical controls.

Build for multiple regions:

• Design and extend region-aware architecture for routing, storage, replication, and failover.
• Enforce data residency constraints.
• Handle operational challenges like consistency, latency, and debugging.

Own the API surface:

• Design coherent, predictable, and customer-friendly public APIs.
• Manage versioning, deprecation, and backwards compatibility.
• Implement authentication, authorization, rate limiting, and idempotency.

Operate and enable:

• Operate and debug complex issues across services, data, and infrastructure.
• Build internal tooling and admin surfaces for visibility.
• Improve reliability, observability, testing, and deployment.

Requirements

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

• 5+ years building and operating production backend systems.
• Deep PostgreSQL experience in schema design, query optimization, and migrations.
• Strong backend skills in Go, Node.js, Python, or Java, plus React or similar for internal tooling.
• Experience designing and maintaining APIs used by real customers.
• Hands-on AWS experience, including storage, IAM, and encryption.
• Experience handling sensitive or regulated data with strict access control, retention, and deletion.
• Judgment about correctness, idempotency, safe retries, and failure handling.
• Clear communication and good judgment in a remote, cross-functional team.

Bonus Points

• Experience with multi-region or data-residency-constrained systems.
• Experience with multi-tenant isolation at the data layer.
• Experience with biometric privacy regimes like BIPA or GDPR.
• Experience in a SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similarly audited environment.
• Experience in identity, authentication, fraud prevention, fintech, or security products.
• Strong production incident, observability, or reliability experience.
