Job Description

M7 Health is the AI-powered workforce operations platform for healthcare, designed to optimize clinical staffing and scheduling using AI. It helps organizations forecast demand, auto-balance schedules, and deploy the right personnel to reduce overtime, cut contract labor costs, and free up clinical leaders to focus on care. M7 serves tens of thousands of healthcare professionals daily and has activated over 100 net new hospitals across 29 states in the past year.

In September 2026, M7 was acquired by Ascend Learning and integrated into its Healthcare Workforce Solutions practice alongside Laudio and StaffGarden. Ascend collaborates with 60% of U.S. nursing schools, enabling M7 to address healthcare’s workforce challenges at a national scale.

About The Role

M7 is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to manage the technical relationship with healthcare systems connected to M7. This role involves collaborating directly with customer IT, payroll, HR, and business application teams to understand their current workflows and data processes. The engineer will identify integration needs and develop strategies for M7’s engineering team to implement across HRIS, time and attendance, SSO, and EMR systems.

During a launch, the engineer will work closely with the Activations team, constructing integration workflows in tandem with operational workflows established by nursing leadership. They will also serve as the technical utility player, resolving issues with scripts, queries, or quick fixes to expedite customer onboarding.

Beyond individual launches, the engineer will contribute to shaping M7’s integrations strategy, determining which systems and patterns to standardize, where to invest in reusable capabilities, and how to scope integration commitments with new customers. While product teams own the roadmap, this role will actively participate in these decisions, leveraging direct insights into customer needs.

Responsibilities

Own technical customer relationships

  • Serve as the primary technical liaison for customer IT, payroll, HR, and business application teams from late-stage sales through go-live and beyond.
  • Conduct discovery sessions with stakeholders to map current workflows, such as how new hires transition from HRIS, how hours and pay codes are processed by payroll, and how users authenticate.
  • Review customer technical specifications, interface documentation, and vendor API documentation to assess feasibility, requirements, and potential risks.
  • Support late-stage sales cycles, security reviews, and RFP responses to ensure accurate integration commitments before contracting.

Deliver integrations and accelerate launches

  • Embed with the Activations team during new customer launches, coordinating integration tasks with the operational go-live plan.
  • Write integration specifications that engineering teams will use, including field mappings, data flows, source-of-truth decisions, and edge cases.
  • Perform hands-on integration setup, such as configuring SSO with customer identity providers, setting up SFTP flat-file feeds, and configuring field mappings and data transformations.
  • Test and validate data flows end-to-end, including reconciliation against source data, troubleshooting failed feeds, and conducting UAT with customer teams.
  • Identify and eliminate technical friction in the activation process, automating repetitive setup tasks to expedite customer onboarding.
  • Oversee the integration workstream for every launch plan, tracking open items and flagging risks early.

Shape integrations strategy

  • Act as a key contributor to integrations strategy and planning alongside Product and Engineering leadership.
  • Identify recurring patterns across customers and translate one-off solutions into requirements for reusable capabilities.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers on prioritization and with Integrations engineering on technical design.
  • Develop and maintain playbooks, templates, and documentation to streamline each launch.

About You

  • You are a customer-facing technologist with 5+ years of experience in forward-deployed engineering, solutions engineering, technical implementation, or integration consulting, with ownership of the technical relationship at enterprise customers. A background in software engineering is highly advantageous.
  • You are hands-on technically, comfortable with API documentation (REST and SOAP), interface specifications, and data schemas. You can configure technical setups yourself, such as setting up SAML or OIDC connections with identity providers like Okta or Entra ID, establishing SFTP feeds, and testing endpoints in Postman. You can also query data using SQL. While you won’t be coding all day, you are technically proficient enough to execute integrations without delegating every step to an engineer.
  • You are an integration detective, adept at uncovering how work truly operates rather than relying on organizational charts. You understand how pay rules or HRIS fields influence a nurse’s schedule and design integrations accordingly.
  • You have a builder’s mindset and do not wait for tickets to resolve issues that slow down launches. If a script, query, or process improvement can expedite customer onboarding, you implement it immediately.
  • You are scrappy and resourceful, always finding the fastest path to
