First Lawyer for AI-Native Law Firm (New York)

Client work

• Advise banks, asset managers, funds, and insurers on regulatory, transactional, and structuring questions across US and cross-border mandates
• Own matters end-to-end: scoping, analysis, memos, documentation, negotiation, and regulator-facing work
• Serve as the trusted counterpart to general counsel, heads of compliance, and in-house teams

Productizing the practice

• Turn each matter into a reusable, AI-native service, including analysis, precedents, and decision logic
• Collaborate directly with engineers to build tooling that automates and enhances legal work
• Set quality bar and review standards for defensible AI-produced legal work

Building the firm

• Help establish the New York practice, including structure, intake, precedent library, and engagement terms
• Develop the client base from initial conversations to signed mandates, alongside founders
• Mentor incoming lawyers to ensure continuity and growth

This role is not static; as the firm grows, so will your responsibilities.

Who you are

• Admitted to the New York bar, with a clean disciplinary record
• Several years of experience at a leading US firm or in-house at a bank, fund, or insurer, with real ownership of financial-sector matters
• Deep expertise in at least one of: banking and financial regulation, funds and asset management, insurance regulatory, structured products, or financial transactions
• Advisory and transactional by temperament
• Commercially sharp, capable of understanding client needs and pricing/scoping work accordingly
• Entrepreneurial, with a passion for building a firm from the ground up
• Native/fluent in English, based in or moving to New York

Bonus:

• Existing relationships with GCs or compliance leadership at banks, funds, or insurers
• Cross-border experience with European financial institutions
• Experience building something with AI, not just using it (e.g., automation, agents, workflows)
