Where this sits.
M-KOPA is one of Africa's fastest-growing fintechs, now serving 7 million customers across five markets and having unlocked over $2 billion in credit. Behind those numbers is a finance function running on Microsoft Dynamics and Anaplan, increasingly threaded through with Claude, and a leadership team that's decided this is the moment to stop treating AI as an experiment and start treating it as infrastructure.
Why now.
We've grown from 5 million customers to 7 million, and we're building toward 10 million next. That growth doesn't just need more finance headcount — it needs a finance function that runs leaner and smarter than the one that got us here. 86% of our customers report improved quality of life, and 70% use our products to generate income; the systems behind those numbers need to scale without the manual reconciliation and reporting drag that usually comes with scale. This role exists because our leadership has committed to closing that gap now, not after it becomes a bottleneck.
What makes this different.
Most "finance transformation" roles are really change-management roles wearing a technical label — you'll sit in workshops, write recommendations, and hand them to someone else to build. This one isn't that. You'll sit inside the finance team, find the friction yourself, and build the fix yourself: deepening our Claude–Dynamics integration, designing agents and workflows that actually replace manual reconciliation work, and owning the result end to end. It's a builder's mandate with a finance brief, not an IT ticket queue.
What you'll bring.
Demonstrable experience deploying Claude (or a comparable AI system) in a real business context — prompt design, workflow automation, API integration, and artefacts that actually run in production. This is the single most important thing we're looking for, and we'll ask you to show us something real you've built, ideally involving a Dynamics-style integration.
A technical foundation strong enough to read a data model and a trial balance in the same afternoon, paired with exceptional learning aptitude — the proven ability to apply AI and engineering thinking to genuinely complex financial and accounting scenarios.
Working knowledge of how audit actually works in practice: mining and structuring data for external and internal audit processes, and following through on remediation of findings, not just producing the report.
What the work looks like.
Some weeks you're deep in the weeds of a Dynamics-Anaplan integration, chasing down why two systems disagree on a number. Other weeks you're building an agent that turns a two-day reconciliation into a two-hour one, then coaching the finance team on when to trust it and when not to. You'll be the person finance calls when something's slow, and the person engineering calls when they need someone who actually understands what a close process demands. Data integrity — one source of truth across the finance stack — sits with you.
Reality check.
This role asks you to be genuinely bilingual between finance and engineering, and there's no playbook to hand you — you'll be writing it as you go, often while systems are live and numbers are due. If that sounds like friction rather than freedom, this probably isn't the role. If it sounds like exactly the kind of problem you've been waiting for someone to hand you, you're probably ready for it.
Where you work from.
This role is remote or based in any of our operating markets — we're more interested in what you can build than where you build it from.
If you've spent the last while wondering why finance teams still work the way they did a decade ago, and you've actually built something that proves it doesn't have to — let's talk about what that could look like at M-KOPA scale.
