High blood pressure is the world's most common disease, causing 18 million deaths each year. At Hilo by Aktiia, we're building a world where no lives are lost to its effects — with technology that helps people take control of their health.

We're a venture-backed scale-up with $96 million raised from investors in Europe and the US. Rooted in 18 years of research at the Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM), our device is the world's only medically accurate, cuffless, continuous blood pressure monitor for daily use — clinically validated and CE Marked as a Class IIa medical device, now available in 12 countries. In July, we launched in the US.

We're a remote-first company headquartered in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, united by our passion for impact and innovation.

Role Overview

As Finance Manager, you own the integrity of our financial records and help build the accounting backbone that enables Hilo to scale internationally.

You will own the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close across multiple legal entities, Group consolidation, VAT, and financial compliance, and the supervision of day-to-day accounting activities. This is a hands-on role where you will both oversee accounting processes and external providers and investigate complex accounting issues, reconciliations, and transactions yourself.

You will also help make Finance more scalable by using automation and AI to reduce repetitive work, strengthen controls, and move toward exception-based accounting processes.

You report to the VP Finance and work closely with Finance, Operations, Sales, Growth, and People, as well as external accountants, tax advisors, and auditors across several jurisdictions.

Core Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Close

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process across the Group.
  • Coordinate accounting across multiple legal entities and jurisdictions, ensuring consistent practices and timely reporting.
  • Supervise the day-to-day accounting activities of a two-person team, covering revenue, COGS, inventory, payroll, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, and general ledger accounting.
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting documentation, and balance sheet accounts, ensuring outstanding items are investigated and resolved.
  • Maintain the closing calendar, responsibilities, and controls, including appropriate cut-off and accounting treatment across entities.
  • Continuously improve the speed, quality, and reliability of the close.
  • Act as a key Finance contact for annual audits and reviews and provide required financial information and documentation.
  • Partner closely with the FP&A team to ensure timely, accurate, and consistent financial reporting and a clear understanding of financial performance.

Group Consolidation

  • Own monthly Group consolidation across multiple entities and currencies.
  • Manage intercompany entries, reconciliations, and eliminations.
  • Review foreign currency translation and other consolidation adjustments.
  • Maintain the Group consolidation structure and consistency between local accounting and Group reporting.

VAT, Tax & Compliance

  • Coordinate VAT compliance across the countries in which the Group operates and sells its products, including supervision of VAT returns and reconciliations.
  • Ensure correct VAT treatment of D2C, B2B, e-commerce, and subscription transactions.
  • Coordinate other indirect tax obligations, including GST and sales tax where applicable.
  • Support corporate income tax filings, tax provisions, and other local tax requirements with external advisors.
  • Maintain the compliance calendar and ensure financial and tax obligations are completed accurately and on time.
  • Support transfer pricing, intercompany recharges, and related documentation where required.

Systems, Data & Controls

  • Own accounting and financial reporting processes within NetSuite and investigate system and accounting issues through to resolution.
  • Improve automation across reconciliations, consolidation, reporting, and recurring accounting activities.
  • Ensure accurate financial data flows from e-commerce, logistics, payroll, banking, and other operational systems into Finance.
  • Identify process weaknesses and implement practical solutions.
  • Document key Finance processes and accounting policies and ensure appropriate documentation and audit trails.

AI, Automation & Process Improvement

  • Make AI and automation a core part of Finance operations, reducing manual work and enabling the team to focus on exceptions, judgment, and higher-value activities.
  • Identify and automate recurring accounting, closing, reconciliation, and compliance activities.
  • Design AI-enabled workflows for areas such as balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany matching, VAT reviews, transaction classification, closing controls, and anomaly detection.
  • Develop an exception-based approach where systems identify transactions and balances requiring human review.
  • Use AI to investigate financial data, identify unusual transactions, and accelerate root-cause analysis while maintaining human oversight.
  • Build reusable Finance workflows, agents, and controls rather than relying on one-off analyses.
  • Ensure appropriate controls, documentation, data protection, and human validation for AI-enabled processes.
  • Measure impact through improvements such as shorter closing timelines, fewer manual reconciliations, reduced errors, and increased Finance capacity.

Requirements

Background & Experience

Essential

  • 5+ years of experience in accounting, audit (Big 4), financial controlling, or a similar Finance role, ideally in an international environment.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow accounting.
  • Hands-on experience owning or coordinating monthly and annual financial closings.
  • Experience with multiple legal entities and intercompany accounting.
  • Strong understanding of financial controls and audit requirements.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and investigating transactions directly within the system.
  • Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills and confidence working with large financial datasets.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • A hands-on, ownership-driven approach and the ability to investigate issues and identify root causes.
  • Interest in using AI, automation, and new technologies to improve Finance processes and reduce manual work.

Nice to Have

  • CPA, ACCA, ACA, Swiss Certified Expert in Accounting and Controlling, or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience with NetSuite and Aleph.
  • Experience with multi-entity and multi-currency consolidation.
  • Experience in an international scale-up or fast-growing company.
  • Experience with VAT compliance across several European jurisdictions.
  • Experience with US sales tax, Australian GST, or other international indirect tax regimes.
  • Experience with inventory accounting and product COGS.
  • Experience with AI, workflow automation, data analytics, or other Finance automation tools.

What Success Looks Like

In Your First 90 Days

30 days: Understand the Group structure, accounting setup, close process, key reporting, and compliance requirements.

60 days: Own the monthly close, consolidation, and VAT calendar, and identify key process and automation opportunities.

90 days: Own the Group close and consolidation end-to-end, with reconciliations and compliance under control and the first automation or AI workflow live.

After 6–12 Months

Closing and compliance are accurate and predictable, key reconciliations and audits run efficiently, and Finance increasingly relies on automated controls and AI-driven workflows to operate more efficiently and scale with the business.
