Finance & Analytics Lead (Quantitative Generalist)

About the role

Our Finance & Analytics team owns the authoritative view of Metabase's business performance, providing insights to drive internal decisions and meet obligations to investors, auditors, and tax authorities.

We’re seeking a quantitative-minded generalist with 3–5 years of experience, preferably in a high-growth startup, to lead analytical projects across the business and own an area of finance operations. Your role will focus on establishing authoritative definitions for key metrics and investigating trends in the data. You’ll also build systems to automate workflows, ensuring reliability and scalability in finance operations.

This is not a traditional finance role—it’s for a systems-thinking generalist who learns quickly, reasons from first principles, and treats finance operations like analytical systems: inputs transformed via defined logic to produce insights.

• Leading analytical projects that redefine how we understand the business, such as:
• Adapting our ARR (Annual Recurring Revenue) definition as the business model evolves
• Evaluating the health of our sales and marketing funnel
• Finding relationships between product initiatives and expansion or churn

• Owning a traditional finance domain (e.g., Accounting or Tax), combining operational work, vendor management, and operational health evaluations
• Automating workflows in your domain to minimize manual effort, aligning finance operations with analytical systems
• Leading cross-functional projects to solve operational challenges

• You think in systems—building reliable processes and automating repetitive work
• You’re quantitatively strong, comfortable in domains like financial modeling, statistical analysis, or reviewing vendor methodologies. SQL experience is strongly preferred (analytics engineering is a plus)
• You leverage AI to improve efficiency, experiment with novel applications, and understand its limitations
• You learn fast—e.g., you don’t need to be an accountant but can master accounting principles and apply them daily
• You manage vendors effectively, build strong relationships, and hold them accountable
• You have strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail, balancing multiple projects seamlessly
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience, preferably in a high-growth startup
• Strong quantitative undergraduate degree (MBA is a nice-to-have)
• Based in the US, Canada, or UK
• You have a low-ego attitude—no task is too small or too large
• Nice-to-have: familiarity with accounting principles or coursework
