Your role

As a hands-on Engineering Manager in the Customer Journey (Growth) team at RoomPriceGenie, you will lead a small team of engineers improving how hoteliers discover and realise value in our platform, from activation and onboarding to feature adoption and long-term engagement. Beyond growth, the team also owns three foundational domains: Auth, User Management and Payments.

This is a genuinely hands-on leadership role. You will guide the team's execution, coach engineers, and stay technically in the work through code reviews, architecture discussions, pairing and direct coding. It is not a step away from the codebase.

You will work closely with a Product Manager and a Senior Engineering Manager, and a core part of the job is turning growth opportunities into outcomes through experimentation: bets, A/B tests and data-informed iteration rather than large all-or-nothing projects. We expect you to be a genuine partner to Product, able to challenge and shape what gets built, not only how.

What you'll do

  • Lead, coach and support a small multidisciplinary team working across backend and frontend.
  • Partner closely with Product and Design, and challenge them: push back on direction, bring your own point of view, and land changes to what the team builds, not just how it builds.
  • Drive experimentation and measurement: help the team ship bets and improvements from idea to production, and build the feedback loops to evaluate real product impact.
  • Own delivery across the team's scope: growth and activation work, plus the Auth, User Management and Payments domains.
  • Foster ownership, testing and quality, so features are reliable, scalable and measurable.
  • Stay technically engaged through reviews, architecture discussions, pairing and frequent coding.
  • Improve engineering processes and team practices to increase clarity, alignment and delivery.
  • Manage performance actively, supporting engineers to grow and addressing issues directly when they arise.

Your profile

  • Strong software engineering background with a track record of building and operating production systems.
  • Real people-management experience, 1-2 years or more, including performance management. This is a management role, and prior management experience is required. Exceptional Tech Leads or Staff engineers are welcome if they have genuinely led and managed people, not only projects.
  • Experience in the Growth space, as an engineer or a manager. Product growth or product-driven SaaS experience is a strong signal.
  • A strong product mindset with the confidence to challenge Product. You enjoy defining problems and validating solutions with PMs and Designers, and you are comfortable disagreeing, proposing alternatives and driving them to a decision.
  • Genuinely hands-on and happy to stay that way: you want to code, review and pair, not move to a mostly-management split.
  • Comfortable in our stack: React/TS on the frontend and Python/Django on the backend. A partial match is fine (for example strong frontend, backend in another language) if you are ready to ramp quickly.
  • Strong grasp of system design, architecture and engineering best practices.
  • Excellent communication and leadership: you create clarity, trust and accountability, with a servant-leadership mindset toward your team.
  • Fluent in English and based in a European time zone (UTC+0 to UTC+2).
