Job Description: Electrical Designer - Arc Flash & Power Studies
Meade has a job opportunity for an Electrical Designer II to support our Arc Flash and Protective Device Coordination Studies work as an integral member of our design team. This role provides drafting, data collection, and technical support to our Electrical Engineers as they perform Arc Flash Hazard Analyses, Short Circuit Studies, and Protective Device Coordination Studies for data centers, industrial buildings, offices, and other high-profile construction projects. All studies and calculations produced with this support are reviewed, signed, and sealed by a licensed Professional Electrical Engineer before being issued for use. This role will be highly collaborative amongst Meade staff, clients, vendors, and external disciplines.
Job Duties:
- Support engineering studies for mission-critical facilities, including hyperscale and enterprise data centers, industrial facilities, and commercial projects.
- Collect and organize electrical system data - equipment nameplate information, conductor and cable data, protective device settings, and utility data - to support Arc Flash Hazard Analysis, Short Circuit Studies, and Protective Device Coordination Studies.
- Build and maintain one-line diagrams and system models in power system analysis software (e.g., SKM, ETAP, Easy Power) under the direction of a licensed Electrical Engineer.
- Draft Arc Flash warning labels, equipment schedules, and study report exhibits for engineer review.
- Support site visits for data collection and validation of as-built electrical conditions.
- Develop, draft, and publish electrical construction documents, one-line diagrams, and technical details for data centers and other high-profile commercial projects.
- Assist with review of submittals, RFIs, and change orders related to overcurrent protective devices, switchgear, and transformers.
- Create and maintain company AutoCAD/Revit standards and templates for Arc Flash and electrical safety deliverables.
- Conduct quality checks on drawings and study documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
- Support project documentation, including design revisions, as-built drawings, and technical submittals.
- Ensure work is completed accurately, efficiently, and within established deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience as an electrical designer/drafter; exposure to Arc Flash, Short Circuit, or Protective Device Coordination Studies is preferred but not required.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field preferred.
- Working familiarity with NFPA 70 (NEC) and NFPA 70E preferred; willingness to develop working knowledge of Arc Flash and coordination study fundamentals required.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD required; Revit and BIM experience a plus.
- Exposure to power system analysis software (e.g., SKM, ETAP, Easy Power) is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Project Managers, Engineers, and other Designers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
