About the Role

Nightingale Education Group is looking for a Director, Bursar to lead the daily operations of our accounts receivable and third-party billing systems โ€” the financial engine that keeps our learners' accounts accurate, timely, and stress-free. This is a role for someone who finds genuine satisfaction in getting the numbers right, building trustworthy systems, and leading a team that treats every learner interaction as a chance to deliver excellent service. You'll oversee the Bursar's Office and play a key part in ensuring our learners, their families, and our college community can count on us.

What You'll Do

  • Oversee the overall operations of learner financial services, billing and receivables, and cashiering functions
  • Supervise the application of financial aid to college charges and release financial aid refunds to learners in compliance with college, federal, and state regulations
  • Maintain the accuracy of charges, credits, payments, and refunds, and reconcile the accounts receivable sub-ledger to the general ledger
  • Administer and coordinate reconciliations, including direct loan records and drawdowns, cash payments, and institutional loans
  • Oversee daily refunding of credit balances, direct deposit recordkeeping, and resolution of deposit returns
  • Administer the SIS system to ensure accurate processing and posting of revenue and fees
  • Provide periodic reports on receipts and technical information to the college community and external funding agencies
  • Recommend and help shape college financial policies and procedures; may serve on planning and policy committees
  • Champion customer-oriented service for learners, parents, collaborators, and outside customers
  • Partner with internal and external auditors, providing access to accounting records as needed
  • Direct the implementation and recordkeeping of internal and external lending programs
  • Set organizational goals and strategic plans for the Bursar's Office, and evaluate operational effectiveness
  • Build and staff an effective team structure, including recruiting, training, supervising, and evaluating staff
  • Develop and manage the department's annual budget and conduct cost/productivity analyses
  • Represent the College to internal divisions and external partners โ€” government agencies, vendors, learners, and families
  • Plan and implement strategies for generating resources and revenue for the organization

What You Bring

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related business field
  • 4+ years of experience in accounting or bursar operations, including at least 1 year in a supervisory role
  • Working knowledge of federal and state financial regulations and university financial policies and procedures
  • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management
  • Solid grounding in cashiering, cash management, and accounts receivable principles and practices
  • Strong independent judgment and the ability to communicate technical information clearly, including in written reports
  • A customer-service mindset, with the ability to re-engineer processes and implement new strategies
  • Experience supervising and developing staff, including organizing and prioritizing team workloads
  • Excellent interpersonal and community-relations skills, with the ability to work effectively across a diverse community
  • Ability to design and administer complex recordkeeping systems and procedures
  • Familiarity with financial software used to build and present complex reports, comparisons, and projections

At Nightingale, we're not just running a college โ€” we're building a high-impact community. As Director, Bursar, you'll be a trusted steward of institutional and learner funds, resolving complex issues with autonomy and helping ensure every learner's financial experience reflects the same care we bring to their education.

All new hires are required to attend New Collaborator Orientation (NCO) in Salt Lake City, Utah. The College will cover travel, lodging, and other accommodations.

Nightingaleโ€™s commitment to diversity and inclusion is reflected both in our learners and collaborators because we believe the best outcomes for learners from underserved and diverse populations are achieved through collaborators with similar backgrounds and cultures.
