Core Responsibilities

The Data Manager at the Working Families Party (WFP) ensures that data tools enhance our organizing efforts. This role oversees the data side of our tools, collaborating closely with organizers to maximize impact on campaigns and movement-building.

Key Responsibilities

Based in the Data Department, the Data Manager is responsible for managing core organizing software systems, including EveryAction, VAN, Votivate, Scale to Win, and Mobilize. This role requires a balance of backend tool administration expertise and frontline stakeholder collaboration skills. The Data Manager serves as the primary touchpoint for organizers seeking hands-on data support.

Data Systems Ownership

  • Serve as an in-house data expert on organizing tools, including EveryAction, Mobilize, VAN, Votivate, and others. Design and implement approaches to organize data and processes in these systems and take ownership of data maintenance.

  • Develop systems, structures, templates, processes, and documentation for data entry, modification, and retrieval.

  • Own and maintain Party infrastructure such as WFP’s endorsement and elected official processes and databases.

Maintain Data Integrity

  • Ensure data systems serve as single sources of truth for organizing work by maintaining clean, accurate, and well-documented data.

  • Develop quality assurance processes to standardize data generation across voter contact tools.

  • Conduct regular quality checks and standardize data to ensure high-fidelity, usable datasets.

  • Audit organizing tools regularly to ensure proper permissioning and adherence to data protocols.

Data Support

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for data needs across the organization, responding to requests from organizers, fundraisers, and divisions.

  • Troubleshoot data challenges, including permissions and bulk uploading issues.

  • Train and support organizers on data aspects of tool use, including mechanics and data processes.

  • Support API integrations between tools (e.g., VAN and Scale to Win).

  • Provide additional capacity for data entry, modification, and retrieval.

  • Collaborate with organizers to resolve data issues, identify tool gaps, and implement improvements.

Data Requests and Reporting

  • Write SQL queries in BigQuery to answer inquiries and calculate metrics for organizers.

  • Provide data visualizations and reporting for actionable insights into WFP’s electoral and member organizing.

Skills and Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience working for candidate campaigns and movement organizations in data and organizer roles.

  • Experience administering electoral software tools (VAN, EveryAction, Mobilize, Scale to Win).

  • Facility with SQL and BigQuery in political contexts.

  • Experience with Google Sheets and/or Airtable in advanced organizing contexts.

  • Deep familiarity with national voterfile products (TargetSmart, Catalist, L2).

  • Experience with data visualization platforms (Google Data Studio, Hex).

  • Experience self-organizing data projects from scoping to implementation and improvement.

  • Analytical reasoning skills to troubleshoot technical and stakeholder problems.

  • Excellent attention to detail and design.

  • Confidence in designing systems for multiple stakeholders.

  • Experience in fast-paced, stakeholder-support roles (tickets, requests).

Working Families Party

View Company Profile

The Working Families Party (operating at workingfamilies.org) is a progressive populist political organization engineered for grassroots mobilization and electoral advocacy. Founded in 1998 as a successor to the New Party, it serves as a political home for working-class Americans disillusioned with mainstream bigotry, corporate bailouts, and political inertia. Under the hood, the party operates through local chapters, candidate recruitment, and policy advocacy—focusing on economic justice, racial equity, and democratic reform. This allows working families and allied movements to amplify marginalized voices, elect transformational leaders, and push for systemic change. Backed by grassroots donations and partnerships with allied organizations like Working Families Power, the party prioritizes multiracial coalition-building to challenge the status quo.
