Controller

About the Role: Cartwheel is an early-stage company building a new kind of mental health program for kids that puts schools at the center. We are hiring our first Controller to build a modern, scalable accounting function that will support Cartwheel’s rapid growth. You will build core processes from scratch, lead our ERP implementation, and create the financial infrastructure we will rely on for audits, fundraising, and multi-state expansion.

What You'll Do

• Own core processes including month-end close, reconciliations, controls, and reporting.
• Evaluate, select, and lead the implementation of a modern ERP (NetSuite, Intacct, etc.).
• Lead GAAP-compliant reporting and technical accounting decision-making to prepare for external audits.
• Hire and mentor a small team, starting with a Staff Accountant.
• Partner across the business with BizOps, Data, and RCM to connect financial reporting to operational metrics.

What You Bring

• A strong GAAP foundation with a curiosity for modern tools/automation and a builder's mindset.
• Experience owning or leading an external audit end-to-end and operating in audit-ready environments.
• Meaningful experience in ERP selection and implementation.
• Experience in healthcare or payer-heavy environments (behavioral health, Medicaid, fee-for-service).
• Strong ability to communicate clearly with non-finance partners and translate complex financial topics.
