Consultant – Life Safety, Fire Safety, Physical Environment, and Emergency Management

Job Overview

Jensen Hughes is seeking a consultant to help healthcare organizations meet and maintain Life Safety, fire safety, physical environment, and emergency management requirements under CMS and applicable accrediting organization standards. Candidates based in the western United States are preferred; we will also consider candidates in other U.S. regions for remote work.

Responsibilities

• Lead on-site physical environment assessments and multiday surveys of healthcare facilities. Document findings, develop tailored plans of correction, and work with clients on solutions that meet applicable NFPA, CMS, accrediting organization, and authority having jurisdiction requirements.
• Assess emergency management programs; conduct hazard vulnerability analyses; develop policies and procedures; and design training and simulation exercises for healthcare organizations.
• Translate regulatory requirements into practical strategies suited to each client’s operations.
• Deliver hands-on and classroom training in fire safety, fire response, and surgical fire prevention.
• Serve as a primary contact for client engagements, build lasting working relationships, and address client needs.
• Support business development by identifying opportunities, contributing to proposals, participating in industry events, and presenting solutions to prospective clients.
• Work with colleagues across disciplines to develop services, professional insights, and client education materials.
• Keep current with changes in regulations, accreditation standards, and professional practice.

Requirements and Qualifications

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in fire protection, fire science, safety, emergency management, or a related field is preferred. An associate degree with relevant experience will also be considered. CHFM or CFPS certification is a plus.
• At least five years of healthcare consulting or compliance experience involving life safety, environment of care or physical environment, and emergency management.
• Experience leading client engagements and working with stakeholders to develop and implement solutions.
• Experience identifying new business opportunities or expanding client relationships.
• Knowledge of NFPA 101 and related standards, such as NFPA 13, 72, and 25, and familiarity with standards used by accrediting organizations, such as The Joint Commission, DNV, ACHC, and AAAHC.
• Understanding of the CMS 2016 Emergency Preparedness Rule and relevant NFPA standards, such as NFPA 99 and 1600.
• Communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical information to varied audiences.
• Ability to organize work, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new technology platforms.
• Ability to travel domestically up to 50%, with potential international assignments. Travel typically alternates between a week at home and a week at a client site.
