Facilitating billions of automated calls each year across a massive global canvas, LiveKit strips away legacy telecommunication boundaries to prioritize deep engineering craftsmanship, technical creativity, and robust platform resilience. The company operates a small, highly collaborative senior team that rejects standard corporate complacency to give elite digital architects a high-ownership remote canvas to shape next-generation AI platforms safely worldwide.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly analytical, systems-minded Billing Systems Engineer to join our core centralized R&D team within the Engineering division in a full-time remote capacity across the United States. Shifting completely away from routine system maintenance, configuration dropdown tweaking, or passive UI management, you will step up to claim individual strategic accountability for rebuilding and overhauling our entire international billing engine from the ground up. You will function as an engineer first—writing complex event-driven integrations, owning production infrastructure, and wiring distributed data services smoothly across all corporate domains. This mission-critical seat requires a seasoned software craftsman who treats billing-critical systems with Finance-grade accuracy requirements, designs robust integration models to handle massive transaction volumes fluidly, and partners peer-to-peer with Finance and RevOps stakeholders to establish immutable data contracts.
Key Responsibilities
- Billing Infrastructure Greenfield Overhaul: Lead, own, and execute the complete end-to-end billing platform overhaul, controlling CPQ configuration layers, quote-to-cash integrations, and automated ERP system synchronizations.
- Consumption-Based Integration Engineering: Design, build, and optimize secure data-ingestion bridges that seamlessly connect LiveKit’s high-volume product usage events to central billing repositories natively using Backend code logic.
- Change Control and Deployment Governance: Establish, mandate, and govern strict change management discipline, deployment workflows, and comprehensive audit trails for all billing-critical systems natively leveraging DevOps pipelines.
- Multi-Tenant Data Contract Validation: Partner closely alongside internal Finance, RevOps, and Analytics teams to define clear data definitions and rigorously validate that billing transaction outputs are correct every single time.
- Scalable Pricing Engine Automation: Architect and program flexible billing systems capable of absorbing rapid pricing model changes, net-new product lines, and massive enterprise volume growth without requiring one-off patches.
- Hands-On Code Prototyping and Delivery: Write, test, and maintain robust billing integrations yourself, deploying through proper version-controlled environments and monitoring nodes with advanced observability tooling.
- Technical Architecture Explanation: Act as a cross-functional technical anchor, clearly explaining complex data architectures, transactional mappings, and billing dependencies to non-technical financial stakeholders.
- Open Source Ecosystem Advocacy: Engage actively with the global developer community, contributing thoughtful Issues and Pull Requests (PRs) natively across LiveKit’s open-source GitHub repositories to elevate system code lines.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven professional history running advanced backend software engineering, financial systems programming, quote-to-cash pipeline integration, or enterprise billing infrastructure consulting.
- Deep, authoritative technical command of consumption, metered, or event-driven billing models, with hands-on experience engineering metrics tracking between product events and central ledgers.
- Expert-tier programming proficiency writing fast, reliable, and practical application logic to connect distributed systems natively utilizing Backend code structures.
- Production-tested experience deploying, version-controlling, testing, and monitoring mission-critical financial applications natively leveraging DevOps practices and CI/CD automation pipelines.
- Strong change management focus, showing an absolute capability to design safe deployment practices, comprehensive rollback strategies, and automated data audit trails.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication mechanics in fluent English, with a demonstrated capacity to serve as a trusted technical partner for cross-functional business cells.
- Location Context: Parameters open exclusively to qualified systems engineers based permanently and resident within the **United States** to execute R&D and core infrastructure duties under a 100% remote home-office layout.
Preferred Strategic Indicators (Nice to Have)
- Prior commercial history executing a greenfield billing system build from scratch inside a fast-growing developer platform or cloud PaaS enterprise.
- Practical operational familiarity navigating modern usage-based billing software suites or advanced billing analytics networks such as **Orb** or **Metronome**.
- An outcome-driven personal philosophy where a deep obsession with data integrity and absolute numerical accuracy keeps you motivated to check and perfect system flows.
- A fast technical learning capacity, with a record of frequently picking up net-new programming languages and server tools as project requirements evolve.
What We Offer
- High-Yield U.S. Engineering Baseline: An attractive full-time base salary scale structured transparently between $120,000 – $250,000 USD per year, calibrated precisely to reward your billing systems authority and execution velocity, supplemented by corporate equity options.
- The exceptional professional canvas to directly direct, code-shape, and deploy the backend billing frameworks and transaction engines power-routing real-time voice AI applications for OpenAI and xAI.
- Profound work-from-home remote parameters providing an elite digital workplace, complete scheduling trust, and zero physical geographic office commuting friction across America.
- Immediate eligibility to enroll in premium corporate protection benefits, including comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance plans.
- Access to elite personal and lifestyle calibration perks, featuring a highly competitive salary matrix, equity ownership structures, and a completely flexible vacation policy.
- The opportunity to build your professional brand alongside a small, senior team of world-class developers who deeply value code craft, structural elegance, and technical alignment.
