About the role
The Billing Manager will own a book of client accounts and the team that runs them. This isn't a role where you inherit a fixed team and keep it running. You'll need to be equal parts people manager, operator, and trusted advisor, working in concert with your peers to build best practices, document processes, and drive efficiencies. You need the judgment to staff and restaff a team as your book changes; the discipline to run fair, consistent 1-on-1s, and performance conversations; the coaching instinct to grow the leaders who report to you, not just the billers on the floor; and enough command of your clients' data to speak to it with real authority.
What You'll Do
Own your client portfolio
Manage a book of client accounts, sized by complexity rather than a fixed count
Staff and restaff each account with the right mix of billers and specialists as the book changes
Serve as the escalation point above your Team Leads for claim, staffing, and client issues
Deliver on production and quality expectations
Set and track production and quality targets across your portfolio
Run regular production and quality reviews with your Team Leads
Decide whether a slipping metric is a coaching issue, a staffing issue, or a product issue, and route it accordingly
Act as a trusted RCM advisor
Speak to your clients' workflows, A/R, denial trends, and performance with real authority
Be the person a client turns to for an answer, not just an update
Manage and coach your people
Run formal 1-on-1s and performance conversations with billers, up to and including terminations
Coach and develop the Team Leads who report to you into stronger leaders, not just the billers on the floor
Identify and develop future Team Lead and senior biller talent
Collaborate across RCM Ops
Work in concert with peer Billing Managers to build best practices and document processes
Drive efficiencies across the broader team, not just your own book
What We're Looking For
8+ years of leadership experience, including meaningful time directly managing billing or RCM teams in healthcare RCM
Deep RCM domain knowledge: fluent on denial management, A/R aging, payer behavior, and reimbursement trends
Experience staffing and scaling a team to match a changing book of business
Experience managing offshore teams, including performance management across geographies
Comfortable owning multiple client relationships and multiple direct/indirect reports at once
Experience with leading PM systems (ModMed, NextGen, Athenahealth, or similar) and payer portals
Direct, clear communicator, comfortable delivering hard feedback and handling escalations
Ability to work US hours (9am-6pm ET)
