Team Overview

Dave is looking for a talented backend engineer to play an instrumental role in building products that help millions of people improve their relationship with money. The team is seeking a passionate software engineer interested in backend development.

Risk is a critical part of Dave's platform-centric teams, providing real-time analytics to assess users' risk and behavior. The team builds and operates event-driven, asynchronous decisioning systems that need to be fast, resilient, and auditable at scale.

What You'll Do:

• Play an instrumental role in building products that help millions of people improve their financial relationship.
• Design and build backend services in TypeScript for real-time and asynchronous risk decisioning.
• Build and maintain event-driven workflows using queues, pub/sub, and cloud task infrastructure.
• Design and implement state machines to model multi-step decisioning and verification flows.
• Collaborate closely with product, operations, and infrastructure teams to build and scale backend services.
• Regularly participate in code reviews and other team functions.
• Own end-to-end delivery of small to medium-sized projects from design through production.
• Provide technical leadership and help guide the team's overall technical direction.
• Offer mentorship and pair with other engineers regularly.

What You'll Need:

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of experience in software development.
• Hands-on experience with event-driven architecture (message queues, pub/sub, or similar).
• Experience with cloud task/job scheduling systems (e.g., Cloud Tasks, SQS, Celery, or equivalent).
• Experience designing or implementing state machines for multi-step workflows.
• Strong CS fundamentals and problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to work as part of a team.
• Experience programming in TypeScript/JavaScript or similar experience in Java, Python, C/C++, or Go.
• Experience with MySQL and Google Cloud Platform.
• Effective communication skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
• The ability to discuss and explain system architecture and design.
• Comfortable using AI tools as part of your engineering workflow, with sound judgment about when to rely on them and when not to.
