Senior Software Engineer

Attain Talent seeks a Senior Software Engineer who enjoys solving practical problems and seeing work through. You’ll help build AirHub, a modern platform replacing eleven legacy EPA systems, as part of a small team where engineers contribute across the development lifecycle.

You’ll build features, connect systems, investigate existing behavior, and help deliver reliable software, with at least an initial focus on helping with some tricky data migration projects. We value curiosity, judgment, and the ability to turn an unclear request into a useful result.

Your Impact

• Deliver working software: take features and fixes from understanding the need through implementation, testing, and release support.
• Build across the system: develop services, APIs, integrations, and application features, working with teammates where their expertise helps.
• Make existing data usable: investigate legacy databases, write SQL, and build or improve migration and validation routines as needed.
• Understand the problem: work directly with business stakeholders to clarify workflows, business rules, and what a successful result looks like.
• Improve reliability: troubleshoot issues, add meaningful tests, and leave code and documentation that others can maintain.
• Contribute as a teammate: participate in mob and pair programming, review code, share what you learn, and help unblock delivery.

What You Bring

• Substantial experience building and maintaining production software, with examples of work you have carried through to delivery.
• Strong programming and debugging skills, including experience with APIs, relational databases, and automated testing.
• Practical SQL skills and comfort investigating how data flows through an application.
• The ability to learn unfamiliar code and tools, work through ambiguity, and make sensible decisions about scope and implementation.
• Clear communication with technical and non-technical colleagues, and willingness to ask questions, share progress, and surface blockers early.
• Comfort taking ownership while collaborating closely and contributing beyond a narrow specialty when the team needs it.

Our Environment

Our stack includes Node.js, TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and AWS. You do not need experience with every tool to contribute. PostgreSQL, data modeling or migration, cloud services, and event-driven systems are useful additional strengths.

How We Work

We combine online mob and pair programming with protected time for focused work. You’ll work closely with technical leads and other engineers, with shared responsibility for delivering software that supports EPA’s environmental mission.
