What are we looking for?

We are seeking an Associate Director and Corporate Counsel to support BetterHelp’s international expansion. This role will be based within Teladoc’s legal team, supporting the scaling of BetterHelp’s operations outside the US. Teladoc is a dynamic, world-spanning public company, and BetterHelp is a critical component of its growth.

The ideal candidate will have fluency in English and additional legal experience in one of our key European target markets: France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, or Italy. This team member must be adaptable, solutions-focused, and possess an outstanding sense of commerciality. You will operate independently in a fast-paced, growing environment and take ownership of projects and programs.

What will you do?

This role spans multiple areas of law, including contracts, litigation, IP, health and telehealth regulation, government affairs, employment, compliance, and general corporate. Independent management of outside counsel is integral, as well as hands-on production of work products.

As our international legal counsel, you will:

• Advise on a wide variety of legal issues related to our international business, supporting both new market launches and existing operations
• Negotiate and draft product partnership agreements, sales contracts, marketing affiliate/partner agreements, advertising/creative/podcast/influencer agreements, SaaS, and vendor agreements in compliance with applicable laws, with a focus on data security and privacy laws across the globe
• Support privacy compliance in non-US markets, including GDPR and local equivalents (e.g., advising on product/process changes and updating related policies and procedures)
• Advise on marketing, digital services/platform laws, consumer protection, and trade practices requirements in international markets
• Support health/telehealth regulatory compliance in relevant markets, partnering with internal stakeholders and external/local counsel as needed
• Support employment and contractor legal matters in international markets and assist in drafting and updating related terms and agreements
• Support and optimize privacy operations, including privacy-related vendor/partnership reviews and privacy ticket triage/reviews (e.g., DSARs and other privacy inquiries)
• Support litigation matters and regulatory/government inquiries as needed, including coordinating with external counsel and internal stakeholders

Can I work remotely?

Yes. We operate on PST and welcome candidates from any time zone. Employees are expected to travel to our San Jose, CA office up to three times per year, plus one company-wide offsite. Travel expenses are covered, and reasonable accommodations are made for unique circumstances.

You must be egoless, value collaboration, and be ready to put in the hard work to accomplish whatever the job demands.

The following are required:

• Must be a qualified lawyer admitted to practice in at least one jurisdiction, with 1-5 years’ post-qualification experience (or equivalent). UK or Ireland qualification is preferred, but EU-qualified lawyers are encouraged to apply
• Fluency in English and experience working as a lawyer (preferably in-house) in one or more of our key European target markets (France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, or Italy). Fluency in another European language is a plus
• 3+ years of relevant consumer business, online platform, and/or healthcare legal experience. Experience with privacy, regulatory/government inquiries, marketing/advertising law is highly desirable
