About Pleo
Messy spend management is tricky business. And tedious processes are a lose-lose situation for all involved, not just finance. At Pleo, we're changing that. We build spend solutions that make managing money seamless, empowering, and surprisingly effective for finance teams and employees alike - with a vision to help all businesses ‘go beyond’.
The word ‘Pleo’ actually means ‘more than you’d expect’, and living by that mantra has been the secret to our success over the last 10 years.
Now, we’re at a pivotal moment in our journey; every move we make has a direct impact on our 40,000+ customers, our business, and our collective success. We need people who take pride in uncovering customer needs, who turn complex problems into simple solutions, challenge the way things are done (respectfully), and always aim high. With great ambitions driving us forward, we can’t say we’ve got this whole thing figured out. And frankly, that’s half the fun! What we can say is that we’re a driven, progressive, and, importantly, a kind bunch of 850+ people from over 100 nationalities, all committed to delivering the future of business spending, together.
About the role
We are looking for an AML Analyst to join Pleo’s Decision Intelligence team and help strengthen how we detect, prevent, monitor, and respond to fraud risk across our financial crime decisioning setup.
This is not a traditional Fraud Operations case-handling role. You will work closer to the decisioning layer: helping translate fraud patterns into rules, monitoring rule performance, supporting rule testing, reviewing alert behaviour, and making sure fraud controls remain effective, explainable, and proportionate.
You will join at an important stage as Pleo continues to mature its fraud and AML decisioning capability. The right person will help improve speed, resilience, and quality in how we create, test, deploy, monitor, and tune fraud rules.
What you’ll be doing
You will help operate and improve Pleo’s fraud decisioning capability, with a focus on card fraud and related financial crime risk scenarios.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the end-to-end fraud rule lifecycle: from rule proposal and analysis through testing, deployment, monitoring, tuning, and rollback.
- Working directly in, or closely with, decisioning tools and rule engines to support fraud detection logic.
- Analysing fraud patterns, alert trends, false positives, false negatives, and rule performance.
- Translating FraudOps insights and stakeholder requests into clear, structured rule proposals.
- Helping assess whether new rules or threshold changes are justified by data.
- Monitoring post-deployment rule performance and identifying when rules need adjustment.
- Supporting daily operational requests related to fraud controls, while ensuring changes are traceable and well documented.
- Partnering with FraudOps, AML, Product, Engineering, Data, Compliance, and Legal to make sure decisioning changes are aligned and risk-aware.
- Maintaining clear documentation for fraud rules, rationale, expected impact, testing outcomes, and monitoring results.
- Helping reduce single points of failure by building repeatable processes and stronger business continuity around fraud decisioning.
What we’re looking for
We are looking for someone who combines fraud domain knowledge with practical experience working in a decisioning environment.
You should have:
- Experience as a Fraud Analyst, Risk Analyst, Fraud Strategy Analyst, Fraud Rules Analyst, Decisioning Analyst, or similar.
- Hands-on experience with a decisioning tool, fraud rules engine, risk platform, or internal decisioning system.
- Experience creating, testing, monitoring, or tuning fraud rules, thresholds, scenarios, or risk logic.
- Strong analytical skills and comfort working with data to assess rule performance and fraud patterns.
- Good understanding of fraud typologies, especially card fraud, transaction fraud, account misuse, or payment fraud.
- Ability to balance fraud prevention with customer impact and operational workload.
- Experience working with false positives and understanding that good fraud controls require continuous monitoring and tuning.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to explain rule logic, rationale, risks, and expected outcomes clearly.
- Comfort working cross-functionally with FraudOps, Product, Engineering, Compliance, and Data teams.
- A structured mindset and appreciation for documentation, traceability, governance, and change control.
- Fintech, banking, payments, spend management, or regulated financial services.
- SQL or basic data analysis.
What success looks like
In your first 3 months, success would look like:
- You understand Pleo’s fraud decisioning setup and can confidently support day-to-day rule operations.
- Fraud rule requests are better structured, documented, and traceable.
- Rule changes are supported by data, clear rationale, and expected impact.
- Post-deployment monitoring is more consistent and visible.
- FraudOps and DI have a stronger operating rhythm for proposing, reviewing, deploying, and tuning fraud controls.
Why join us?
This is a rare opportunity to help shape a growing decisioning function from the inside. You will not just be reviewing fraud alerts, you will help define how fraud detection logic is built, governed, monitored, and improved.
You will join a team that is building the foundations for more scalable, data-driven, and resilient financial crime decisioning. If you enjoy working at the intersection of fraud strategy, operations, data, systems, and product, this role will give you real ownership and impact.
Apply if this sounds like you
You are analytical, structured, curious, and comfortable challenging assumptions. You know that fraud rules are never “set and forget.” You understand the importance of balancing risk reduction, customer experience, operational workload, and governance.
Most importantly, you have worked with decisioning tools or rule-based risk systems before and want to help build a stronger fraud decisioning capability at scale.
