AI Software Engineer
Job Description
Key Skills Required
Master these to land this role
Want to know if you're a match for this job?
We’re looking for a skilled and adaptable Full-stack Software Engineer who takes an AI-first approach to software development, using tools such as Claude Code and Codex to accelerate delivery while maintaining high engineering standards.
You’ll join Treatwell’s AI Engineering team and work closely with our Chief AI Officer. Your focus will be on building internal tools and automating workflows, alongside customer-facing products and features. You’ll work directly with the people using these tools to understand their needs, build working prototypes quickly, and improve them through feedback.
We are seeking a software engineer who is comfortable working in a cross-functional Agile team, with proven experience in designing and building frontend and backend applications, continuously delivering clean, maintainable, and well-tested code. We want to do great work and to be known for it.
You’ll use AI throughout the development process: breaking down problems, guiding coding agents, iterating on implementations, and reviewing and testing the results. We value hands-on experimentation, short feedback loops, and the judgment to know when to change direction or turn a promising prototype into reliable software. You’ll also build integrations with our products and third-party platforms, adding LLMs and other AI capabilities where they solve a real user need.
We don’t just ship features; we’re building a Europe-wide platform and team, and we know we need to do great work to succeed. To achieve this, we need passionate people who love being challenged, learning new things, and growing with their team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, prototype, develop, and maintain full-stack applications, primarily using TypeScript, Node.js, and React. Choose the tools and languages that best fit the problem and adapt quickly as requirements evolve.
- Work closely with the Chief AI Officer, internal users, product managers, designers, and engineers to identify practical problems, test ideas, and deliver useful tools in short iterations.
- Use AI coding tools and agent workflows extensively to accelerate implementation, debugging, and testing, while taking ownership of code quality, correctness, and maintainability.
- Integrate and maintain robust connections with third-party APIs and services.
- Participate in code reviews, architectural decisions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Move successful prototypes into dependable everyday use, with appropriate testing, performance, security, and error handling.
- Ensure quality is embedded in the software development process, recognizing good UX, visual, and technical design.
Requirements:
- At least 2 years of proven experience as a Software Engineer.
- Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants and agents as a core part of your development workflow, including defining tasks, providing context, coordinating local or cloud-based coding workflows, and reviewing and validating generated code.
- Practical familiarity with integrating LLM APIs and AI services into applications, and the ability to learn orchestration and evaluation tools as needed. We value sound engineering judgment over expertise in a particular AI framework.
- Strong experience in backend development with Node.js or a similar JavaScript runtime.
- Experience building frontend applications with React or a comparable framework, and the flexibility to work across backend languages and tools when the problem calls for it.
- Solid understanding of RESTful API design, OAuth, and integrating third-party APIs.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, comfort with ambiguous requirements, and a practical approach to experimentation: build a small working version, get feedback, and iterate.
Nice to Haves:
- Experience with TDD/BDD and writing test suites (e.g., using Jest, Cypress).
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and DevOps best practices.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (we use GitLab CI/CD).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS.

Treatwell
View Company ProfileTreatwell (operating under treatwell.com) is Europe’s largest and leading SaaS-enabled marketplace for hair, beauty, and wellness bookings. Originally founded in London in 2008 by Lopo Champalimaud and Salim Mitha under the brand name Wahanda, the company transformed the traditional phone-reliant personal care industry into a centralized, digitized ecosystem—frequently described as the OpenTable for beauty. In 2015, Tokyo-based conglomerate Recruit Holdings acquired a majority stake in the business for €171 million, consolidating it alongside their global Hot Pepper Beauty division and officially rebranding the European entities to Treatwell in 2016. The company operates a dual-engine architecture: a consumer-facing hyper-localized mobile marketplace application alongside the comprehensive Treatwell Pro ERP management software for partner salons. This dedicated business OS provides salon owners with automated marketing toolkits, shift scheduling, granular staff commission configurations, inventory tracking, and integrated fintech point-of-sale payment rails. Treatwell significantly grew its dominance in Southern Europe via a milestone corporate merger with Milan-headquartered salon software provider Uala, backed by European digital group Real Web. Led by Chief Executive Officer Claire Davenport, Treatwell handles over 100 million beauty appointments annually for a massive network of more than 55,000 partner salons across 13 European countries. Dual-headquartered in London and Amsterdam to support its highly distributed European operations, the platform relies on a powerhouse team of over 800 product developers, salon success managers, and operational specialists.
