Core Responsibilities
As an AI Policy Specialist on the Violence & Fiction team, you will evaluate user requests and AI model responses involving violence, weapons, threats, and dark fiction within the full conversation context. Your role is to:
- Distinguish between fictional, educational, historical, or defensive violence and requests that seek real-world uplift or express real intent to harm.
- Assess whether a model’s response provides meaningful real-world capability, regardless of framing.
- Identify ambiguous cases (e.g., torture scenes in thrillers vs. interrogation manuals, venting vs. threats) and classify them defensibly with clear rationales.
- Write adversarial or borderline prompts to test model boundaries.
- Raise policy gaps, contradictions, and emerging edge cases to leads and teams.
- Participate in calibration discussions and challenge interpretations respectfully.
- Maintain consistency and accuracy across repetitive, feedback-driven evaluations.
Key Qualifications
You may be a fit if you have:
- Deep expertise in violent fiction (writing, game design, screenwriting, editing) or real-world violence (military, law enforcement, EMS, emergency medicine).
- Experience in crisis counseling, threat assessment, or trust and safety to distinguish intent from action.
- A strong ability to audit reasoning and separate personal views from policy standards.
- Experience with AI evaluation, red teaming, or content moderation (helpful but not required).
Nice-to-Have
- Published work in violent fiction, games, or media.
- Military/law enforcement or crisis intervention training.
- Firearms/martial arts experience as an instructor or professional.
- Prior AI evaluation (e.g., RLHF, ChatGPT/Gemini assessment).
Sensitive-Content Notice
This role involves regular engagement with graphic material (violence, threats, self-harm, abuse). Work is structured with exposure limits, mental health support, and professional guidelines. Candidates must sustain judgment and consistency while handling difficult content.

Handshake
View Company ProfileHandshake is the premier early talent network and university recruiting platform dedicated to democratizing career opportunities for students and recent graduates. Founded in 2014 by Garrett Lord, Ben Christensen, and Scott Ringwelski in San Francisco, the company was built on the belief that a student's career prospects should not be dictated by their zip code or the prestige of their university. Under the hood, Handshake operates a massive three-sided marketplace connecting over 1,400 higher education institutions, millions of active students, and nearly a million employers—ranging from Fortune 500 giants to local non-profits. The platform provides a centralized hub for job postings, virtual career fairs, and proactive talent sourcing, leveraging smart matching algorithms to surface relevant roles based on a student's skills and interests rather than just their pedigree. Their primary target audience includes college students entering the workforce, university career centers seeking to boost graduate outcomes, and enterprise talent acquisition teams desperate to build diverse, entry-level pipelines. What sets Handshake apart in the HR Tech space is its absolute dominance in the higher education ecosystem, effectively replacing legacy university job boards and becoming the undisputed standard for early-career recruitment.
