AI Engineer - Research & Development (Prototype Solutions)

Position Overview

This program focuses on the research and development of cutting-edge AI-powered capabilities built to augment and further empower existing tools. This role focuses on identifying and proposing small, focused prototype solutions to known needs. The candidate should be able to take charge of an individual effort, conduct meaningful research into potential solutions, and architect and design a proof of concept to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed solution.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in architectural discussions and execute on priority features with the Product Analyst (PA)
• Develop robust and high-quality software, prioritizing user requirements and delivering working products on time
• Build and integrate automated testing into the product’s codebase
• Consistently groom feature backlog and execute tasks in a sprint-driven cadence

Qualifications

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS security clearance (note, only US Citizens are eligible for security clearances)
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline. (Degree requirement can be met with 4 years of hands-on experience in a Software Engineering or similar full-time position.)
• Ability to collaborate as a team but execute independently
• Thrives in a high-trust, adaptable team environment
• Proficient in developing with Golang and Python
• Experience contributing to or leading the design of new capabilities
• Experience with agentic development and applying LLMs, embeddings, and smaller trained models to analytics, including rigorous evaluation of accuracy, uncertainty, and limitations
• Experience in API/SDK development
• Experience working with software integrators to debug and solve integration challenges, improving the product along the way
• Experience with a version control code repository, such as GitLab

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Experience with Containerization (Docker or Podman)
• Experience implementing and using GitLab CI pipelines
• Experience with gRPC / Protobuf
• Experience in database development (SQLite / PostgreSQL)
• Experience deploying software using Kubernetes

Additional Desired Qualifications

• Familiarity with the Cyber Operations Domain
• Familiarity with Scaled Agile Framework
