The Role

The AI Developer Tools Engineer ensures Midnight becomes a top choice for AI-assisted and agentic software development. This role oversees the tooling that empowers AI coding agents to build on Midnight, maintains Midnight Expert and other AI-enabled developer tools, and incorporates real-world feedback from builders and agentic tooling into the core protocol roadmap. This position bridges developer experience, protocol strategy, and applied AI tooling, reporting directly to the Head of Product.

• Ensures Midnight is accessible to AI coding agents, not just human developers, by refining tooling, context, and documentation that these agents rely on
• Manages the daily maintenance and upholds the quality standards of Midnight Expert and other AI-enabled developer tools used by the community
• Acts as a feedback conduit, translating how agentic tooling and builders interact with Midnight into structured input for the protocol roadmap

Core Responsibilities

Enabling Agentic Development on Midnight

• Owns and enhances the tooling, context files, SDKs, and documentation that enable AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot-style agents) to effectively build on Midnight
• Designs, builds, and optimizes agent harnesses and orchestration workflows tailored for Midnight-specific development tasks
• Identifies and resolves gaps where agentic tooling fails, hallucinates, or generates incorrect Midnight-specific code
• Develops and maintains reference implementations, prompts, and examples to improve agent output quality
• Evaluates new agentic coding tools and protocols (e.g., MCP servers) for relevance to the Midnight developer ecosystem

Builder & Agentic Tooling Feedback Loop

• Monitors how builders and agentic tools utilize Midnight, tracking successes, failure modes, and workarounds
• Synthesizes feedback from agentic tooling usage and community builders into clear, structured input for the core protocol roadmap
• Maintains regular reporting to Product and Engineering on developer/agent experience trends and blockers
• Represents the AI-assisted builder perspective in roadmap and prioritization discussions

AI Dev Tooling Maintenance

• Oversees ongoing maintenance, accuracy, and reliability of Midnight Expert and other AI-enabled developer tools for the community
• Ensures tool knowledge bases, embeddings, and reference content remain current as the protocol evolves
• Triages and resolves community-reported issues with AI dev tooling
• Defines and tracks quality metrics (accuracy, usefulness, adoption) for AI-enabled dev tools

Requirements

Recommended Experience & Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building, integrating, or maintaining AI coding assistants or agentic dev tooling (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, MCP servers, RAG-based coding assistants)
• Practical understanding of how AI coding agents consume context — including prompting, retrieval, and tool use — and what factors contribute to their success or failure on a given codebase or protocol
• Familiarity with smart contract or protocol-level development (e.g., Cardano/partner-chain, ZK-based systems) is advantageous, though not mandatory
• Experience translating qualitative user or usage feedback into structured product or roadmap input
• Strong technical writing skills, as this role involves shaping documentation and reference material for both AI agents and humans
• Comfort working asynchronously and independently across a wide range of working hours (UTC-5 to UTC+5)
• Bonus: experience building an application on Midnight or another privacy network
