About Local Initiatives Support Corporation
Local Initiatives Support Corporation (operating at lisc.org) is a nonprofit community development organization engineered for building inclusive, resilient communities across America. Founded in 1979, LISC connects local groups with capital, grants, loans, and technical expertise to bridge gaps in health, wealth, and opportunity. Under the hood, LISC and its affiliates deploy financial tools—such as grants, loans, and equity investments—alongside management assistance to support community development projects. This allows under-resourced communities to access resources, strengthen operations, and create affordable housing and economic opportunities. As one of the country’s largest Community Development Finance Institutions (CDFI), LISC has invested $24 billion into communities, leveraging $69 billion to support the creation of 436,000 affordable homes and apartments.
