About 2U: At 2U (2u.com), we are all in on purpose. We are motivated by our mission—to make learning limitless—and connected by our shared passion to deliver world-class higher education at scale. As the parent company of edX, a globally recognized online learning platform, 2U powers thousands of elite higher education offerings, ranging from free open-access courses to full clinical and professional degrees. Together with our top-tier college, university, and corporate partners, we are helping accelerate career paths and transform human lives worldwide. Driven by an inclusive, high-velocity corporate culture, we strive to build a workspace where every team member is empowered by our shared educational impacts. 2U equips entrepreneurial executives with an uncompromised professional canvas to govern high-leverage university alliances, lead matrixed internal operations, and architect long-term commercial sustainability.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly analytical, connection-obsessed, and systems-minded VP, General Manager to lead key partner portfolios within our Alternative Credentials Business under a permanent, full-time hybrid or remote engagement framework based in the United States. Operating as an entrepreneurial and strategic enterprise leader, you will step up to claim absolute ownership, revenue growth, and long-term delivery accountability over 2U’s most critical institutional partnerships. Shifting completely away from high-level theoretical consulting, passive account administration, or isolated course-level troubleshooting, you will run an active multi-million dollar business operations, complex contractual negotiation, and multi-layered stakeholder alignment laboratory—partnering face-to-face with university Deans, Provosts, corporate business development units, and cross-functional internal operational teams. This position requires an operational veteran with 7-10 years of professional client-facing leadership depth who navigates high-stakes matrix environments fluidly natively using Project Management paradigms, evaluates portfolio revenue boundaries cleanly using advanced financial and enrollment models, and drives strategic growth frameworks confidently to scale educational value at a massive level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Alliance Architecture: Function as the primary enterprise relationship manager across alternative credential portfolios, constructing deep, high-trust alignments with Dean/Provost-level and executive university stakeholders.
  • Portfolio Revenue Governance: Claim individual accountability over overall revenue growth and performance, continuously monitoring baseline financial health and executing data-driven cross-selling and upselling initiatives cleanly natively utilizing Project Management practices.
  • Contracting and Risk Mitigation: Lead the strategic development, comprehensive review, and commercial negotiation of university partner contracts, handling renewals, structural amendments, and program expansions while securing compliance.
  • Growth Lever Framework (GLF) Execution: Design, deploy, and continuously optimize customized GLF strategies in close tandem with university leaders to unlock sustainable, long-term enrollment velocity and program diversification.
  • Cross-Functional Matrix Alignment: Direct cross-functional internal units spanning product engineering, data analytics, marketing operations, and client success to ensure operational priorities match partner needs flawlessly.
  • Escalation and Sentiment Triage: Serve as the definitive senior escalation link for systemic portfolio friction points, taking rapid corrective measures to protect partner Net Promoter Scores (NPS) and stabilize contract retention.
  • Market Trend Interpretation: Maintain absolute fluency over educational market dynamics, competitive positioning matrices, and technical innovations to propose timely strategic program pivots.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Education Leadership, Finance, or a highly relevant professional field (Master degree preferred).
  • A minimum of 7 to 10 years of verified, non-internship career history successfully managing senior external enterprise clients or partners and leading large-scale internal business operations.
  • Proven record of success driving commercial growth, contract values, and operational pipeline developments natively utilizing Project Management methodologies.
  • Advanced financial acumen, featuring deep practical experience managing P&L structures, reviewing budget metrics, and navigating complex corporate financial models.
  • Superb interpersonal negotiation and communication precision in English, with a demonstrated background challenging colleagues constructively and managing conflicting goals in a matrixed setup.
  • Location Context: Position open to qualified executives nationwide inside the United States as a remote track, with a strong hiring preference for individuals living within the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan zone who can access the Arlington, VA headquarters twice per week.

Preferred Strategic Indicators (Nice to Have)

  • Prior executive experience working explicitly within the Higher Education market, Online Program Management (OPM) spaces, or corporate workforce-credentialing domains.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing mechanics, customer acquisition cycles, or platform integrations supporting online course delivery systems.
  • An innovative, highly resilient personal outlook comfortable spearheading organizational changes inside rapidly updating technical environments.

What We Offer

  • Vetted, High-Level EdTech Executive Salary Blueprint: An exceptionally competitive baseline annual corporate salary range calibrated against your professional leadership depth, fixed precisely between $164,000 and $192,600 USD per year, with eligible executive bonus pathways.
  • The spectacular professional canvas to direct and expand the digital distribution channels of world-renowned academic institutions.
  • Profound work-from-home remote flexibility providing an autonomous virtual track, high scheduling trust, and complete corporate infrastructure support.
  • Comprehensive health, medical, dental, and vision insurance alongside life insurance and an optimized 401(k) company match program.
  • Generous paid time off parameters including unlimited PTO, dedicated community volunteer days, extended parental leave provisions, and a supportive company-wide winter break.
