Role Overview:

The Technical MATM Consultant is a hands-on technical role responsible for the configuration, integration, support, and ongoing technical design of the organization’s Transportation Management System.

The role requires direct experience with Manhattan Active Transportation Management (MATM), including the ability to access the application, understand its configuration framework, make and validate configuration changes, troubleshoot issues, and support day-to-day transportation operations.

This position also provides technical direction for integrations between MATM and internal or external systems. The Technical Owner will work directly with Transportation Operations, business analysts, developers, integration teams, and Manhattan Associates to design, implement, test, and support reliable TMS solutions.

This is an individual-contributor role requiring both hands-on MATM expertise and the ability to make sound technical design decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • MATM Configuration and Application Support
  • Serve as the primary hands-on technical resource for Manhattan Active Transportation Management.
  • Access and work directly within MATM to review, create, update, test, and troubleshoot system configurations.
  • Configure MATM capabilities to support transportation planning, execution, tendering, rating, routing, tracking, and related operational processes.
  • Evaluate business requirements and determine whether they should be addressed through native MATM configuration, an integration, an extension, or a process change.
  • Troubleshoot application behavior, configuration issues, data problems, and processing failures.
  • Investigate production issues using available application tools, logs, messages, alerts, and transaction data.
  • Implement or coordinate configuration changes through the appropriate development, test, and production environments.
  • Support testing, validation, deployment, and post-production verification of MATM changes.
  • Maintain configuration documentation and ensure changes are traceable and supportable.
  • Integration Design and Technical Direction
  • Define and maintain the overall technical integration design between MATM and internal enterprise systems.
  • Develop a strong understanding of inbound and outbound TMS data flows, including orders, shipments, loads, carriers, rates, locations, status updates, tracking events, and financial information.
  • Determine appropriate integration patterns, system responsibilities, data ownership, processing rules, and error-handling approaches.
  • Work directly with integration developers and internal system teams to define interface requirements and technical specifications.
  • Review API payloads, messages, field mappings, transformation rules, and interface designs.
  • Provide technical direction for synchronous APIs, asynchronous messaging, batch processes, and other integration methods used with MATM.
  • Ensure integrations include appropriate validation, logging, monitoring, reconciliation, retry, and recovery capabilities.
  • Troubleshoot integration failures across MATM, middleware, ERP, warehouse, carrier, and other connected systems.
  • Maintain integration diagrams, interface inventories, data mappings, and technical support documentation.
  • Technical Design and Delivery
  • Translate transportation business requirements into detailed MATM configuration and technical integration designs.
  • Participate directly in solution design, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and implementation activities.
  • Identify technical dependencies, risks, assumptions, and design constraints.
  • Recommend solutions that use native MATM functionality where practical and minimize unnecessary customization.
  • Review proposed solutions for reliability, maintainability, performance, and operational supportability.
  • Provide technical estimates and input into delivery plans.
  • Support projects, enhancements, defect fixes, and operational improvements involving MATM.
  • Partner with Manhattan Associates and implementation partners to resolve product questions and complex technical issues.
  • Production Operations
  • Provide advanced support for MATM production incidents and operational issues.
  • Perform hands-on root-cause analysis across application configuration, integrations, data, and connected systems.
  • Resolve issues directly where possible and coordinate with developers, vendors, or infrastructure teams when additional support is required.
  • Develop and maintain operational runbooks, troubleshooting procedures, and support documentation.
  • Identify recurring issues and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Support system monitoring and reconciliation processes to ensure transportation transactions are processing successfully.
  • Participate in an on-call or production-support rotation when required.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Hands-on experience implementing, configuring, or supporting Manhattan Active Transportation Management.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate MATM administration and configuration capabilities and make application configuration changes.
  • Experience troubleshooting MATM configuration, processing, data, and integration issues.
  • Strong understanding of transportation-management processes, including:
    • Transportation planning and optimization
    • Shipment and load creation
    • Routing and consolidation
    • Carrier selection and tendering
    • Rating and accessorial charges
    • Shipment execution and status tracking
    • Freight settlement or financial integration
  • Experience designing and supporting integrations between a TMS and internal enterprise systems.
  • Working knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, web services, event-driven integrations, message queues, or middleware platforms.
  • Ability to review technical interface specifications, payloads, field mappings, and data transformations.
  • Experience using logs, monitoring tools, application data, and error messages to troubleshoot technical problems.
  • Experience supporting enterprise applications in production environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take technical ownership of an issue through resolution.
  • Ability to communicate technical designs and issues clearly to developers, business users, vendors, and technology leaders.

Preferred / Nice to Have:

  • Experience with multiple components or functional areas of Manhattan Active Transportation Management.
  • Experience with Manhattan Active APIs, extension capabilities, integration frameworks, and release processes.
  • Experience integrating MATM with ERP, order-management, warehouse-management, carrier, visibility, freight-audit, or data-platform solutions.
  • Experience creating interface specifications, integration diagrams, mapping documents, and support runbooks.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational data concepts.
  • Experience with enterprise middleware or integration platforms.
  • Familiarity with application monitoring, log-analysis, and API-testing tools.
  • Experience with source control, deployment processes, automated testing, or CI/CD practices.
  • Experience working in transportation, logistics, distribution, or supply-chain technology.

Key Competencies:
