About Render: Render is building the modern cloud platform for developers creating AI-native, full-stack, multi-service applications. Our central mission is to completely eliminate the historical tradeoff between the granular power of traditional hyperscalers and the simplicity of developer-friendly platforms—so software teams can ship fast, scale reliably, and focus purely on their core product rather than managing physical servers. Backed by over $257M in top-tier venture financing, including a fresh $100M Series C funding round, Render is trusted by over 6 million developers worldwide to launch and manage real-world infrastructure without writing legacy code.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly autonomous, systems-minded, and code-fluent Software Engineer to join our specialized Developer Velocity organization under a permanent, full-time remote framework open across the United States and Canada. In this highly cross-functional platform engineering seat—spanning multiple career levels from mid to principal talent—you will step up to claim absolute internal developer tooling architecture, monorepo ergonomics optimization, and CI/CD compiler velocity accountability. Shifting completely away from routine front-end graphical styling, generic back-office data transcription, or non-technical file entry, you will run an active internal infrastructure, containerized testing automation, and deployment telemetry laboratory—partnering closely with every software group across the entire engineering ecosystem. This position requires an engineering authority who structures deployment pipelines fluidly natively using DevOps mechanics, writes high-concurrency software primitives cleanly in Go, manages cluster workloads systematically inside Kubernetes, and designs highly parallelized validation frameworks confidently to compress code feedback loops for humans and autonomous AI agents alike.

Key Responsibilities

  • Internal Tooling & Infrastructure Governance: Architect, implement, and maintain the internal platform primitives, caching engines, and automation frameworks that empower Render engineering cohorts to deploy code fast and safely natively utilizing DevOps principles.
  • CI/CD Pipeline Acceleration: Optimize continuous integration and automated deployment loops, cutting build, test validation, and image compilation frequencies while securing an unassailable path to production.
  • Monorepo Ergonomics Engineering: Overhaul build dependency maps, multi-service increment frameworks, and local environment structures to guarantee tight developer iteration loops as codebases scale.
  • Agentic Context Architecture: Design and implement data delivery systems that pipe codebase conventions, recent service ownership profiles, and accurate environment states into autonomous AI agents, ensuring execution attempts land closer to correct.
  • DORA Metrics Instrumentation: Instrument the engineering organization with rigorous measurement hooks, tracking operational targets including deployment frequency, lead time for changes, and time to restore to drive actionable workflow enhancements.
  • Distributed Systems Resiliency: Manage and harden container infrastructure layouts leveraging Kubernetes cluster frameworks, participating in an internal on-call rotation to sustain platform delivery systems health.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven professional history operating within a Software Engineer, DevOps Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), or internal developer platform capacity.
  • Advanced Programming Language Command: High technical proficiency writing code solutions within Go (or a demonstrated willingness to immediately master it as our primary backend software primitive).
  • Hands-on production history administering containerized applications and orchestrating microservices inside active Kubernetes clusters.
  • Granular technical experience mapping infrastructure deployments programmatically using configuration-as-code suites like Terraform.
  • Bias toward quantitative measurement, tracking performance parameters systematically to analyze data-driven optimization benchmarks.
  • Location Context: Position operates under remote geographic guidelines open to qualified engineering builders residing permanently inside the United States or Canada.

Preferred Strategic Indicators (Nice to Have)

  • Prior experience administering or improving advanced build optimization tools and pipelines at a meaningful scale, specifically utilizing Bazel, Concourse, or complex GitHub workflows.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native monitoring, telemetry tracing, and distributed observability infrastructures such as Datadog, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.
  • Comfort working close to the metal with Linux configurations, container namespaces, and core kernel security mechanisms.
  • Deep human empathy for software developers, demonstrating a commitment to eliminating manual toil sustainably.

What We Offer

  • Lucrative & Experience-Calibrated Compensation Scale: A highly competitive annual base salary range of $170,000 – $290,000 USD/CAD, dependent on career alignment and regional parameters, supplemented by valuable startup equity options.
  • 100% remote workspace flexibility across the US and Canada, allowing you to pioneer modern cloud technologies completely from your home office.
  • Premium Health Care Coverage: 100% employer-paid medical coverage and 99% employer-paid dental and vision premium plans for you and your legal dependents.
  • Immediate access to flexible spending wallets (FSAs/HSAs), company-backed long-term disability, life insurance, and robust retirement 401(k) frameworks.
  • Generous Paid Leave Privileges: 4 weeks of paid vacation, 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave for bonding, monthly lifestyle stipends for wellness or hobbies, and a monthly internet/cell phone infrastructure subsidy.
