About the Business Applications Team
The Business Applications org builds and operates the internal systems that keep Thumbtack running at scale: Salesforce-centered workflows, admin tooling, and integrations that connect teams across the company. They are now expanding this foundation into a broader internal platform for AI-enabled work, including shared APIs, reusable integration patterns, and safe, auditable capabilities for business-critical actions. This team works directly with business teams to turn complex operational needs into software that is easier to run, extend, and automate responsibly.
The Challenge
Agents can already take action inside Thumbtack's internal systems. The challenge is making this trustworthy: giving business teams a way to configure what agents are allowed to do, review and correct their work, and see clearly what happened and why. Without this, automation remains stuck in pilots. This engineer will own the product surface that turns agent capability into something teams will rely on for business-critical work, along with the services behind it.
What You’ll Do
- Design and build the interfaces business teams use to configure agents, review their work, approve or correct actions, and understand what happened and why.
- Build observability and evaluation tooling that makes agent behavior legible, including where it succeeded, where it failed, and whether changes made things better.
- Work across the stack, from React and TypeScript through service code and data models, owning features end-to-end through build, test, launch, and iteration.
- Partner directly with business teams to translate ambiguous operational problems into working software.
- Own the full lifecycle of your work, including monitoring and post-launch improvement.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong frontend skills with React and TypeScript, including complex application state and data-dense interfaces.
- Solid backend engineering ability with experience in Go, PHP, and Python, and the ability to pick up new languages.
- Working knowledge of relational and non-relational data stores (Postgres, DynamoDB, or similar).
- Real product judgment: the ability to analyze workflows, decide what to build, and determine what to cut.
- Interest in the problems that come with non-deterministic systems, such as uncertainty, partial failure, and designing for human correction rather than assuming a correct answer every time.
- Proven ability to navigate ambiguity, close knowledge gaps, and deliver in an evolving environment.
