About NextLink Labs: NextLink Labs (nextlinklabs.com) is a rapidly growing technical consulting and digital engineering firm focused on helping enterprise companies build, scale, and secure their software applications and cloud organizations. Grounded in the absolute conviction that corporate marketplace success demands secure, scalable, and effective technology deployment, NextLink Labs pridefully enables its client portfolio to dominate their respective industries. As a remote-first engineering organization with technical team members distributed natively nationwide, NextLink Labs continually invests in building a comfortable, collaborative, and deeply inclusive environment where senior product architects can thrive professionally while maintaining complete lives outside of work hours.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly analytical, connection-obsessed, and systems-minded Software Architect to join our elite Custom Software Development consulting group under a permanent, full-time fully remote engagement framework based anywhere in the United States. Operating as a premier multi-stack technical expert and client-facing engineering authority, you will step up to claim direct technical, structural, and refactoring accountability over building scalability frameworks for a highly diverse client portfolio. Shifting completely away from routine script configuration tweaks, simple landing page template modifications, or basic localized bug fixes, you will run an active high-throughput distributed messaging, service-oriented architecture, and legacy monolith modernization laboratory—partnering face-to-face with corporate technical buyers, internal engineering teams, and growth management squads. This position requires an engineering generalist with 5+ years of production Ruby on Rails experience who constructs robust distributed platforms fluidly natively using Backend methodologies, evaluates architectural bottlenecks cleanly across legacy codebases, and directs engineering best practices confidently to minimize systemic technical debt at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Scalable API Architecture: Design, develop, and maintain high-availability web applications and microservices-based API architectures leveraging Ruby on Rails natively utilizing Backend standards.
  • Multi-Language Delivery: Transition fluidly between Ruby, Go, Python, or Node.js depending on specific client ecosystem constraints and engagement parameters.
  • Legacy Monolith Modernization: Review, audit, and systematically refactor legacy applications to isolate performance friction and eliminate architectural technical debt.
  • Distributed Systems Engineering: Implement resilient data pipeline processing layers leveraging background queues (Sidekiq, Resque) and asynchronous event streaming buses like Kafka.
  • Technical Discovery & Project Scoping: Partner closely with Sales and Marketing during early client scoping calls, converting vague business pain points into crisp, actionable project specifications.
  • Client-Facing Demonstration: Lead technical system demonstrations directly with key external stakeholders, translating complex algorithmic workflows into clear business outcomes to guide expectations.
  • Team Mentorship & Quality Control: Elevate internal engineering bars by conducting rigorous code reviews, documenting engineering playbooks, and building reusable template components.
  • Relational Database Optimization: Design, optimize, and manage enterprise-grade transactional schemas with a deep concentration on PostgreSQL performance limits.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of verified professional history building, deploying, and maintaining production-grade web applications anchored in Ruby on Rails.
  • Masterful comprehension of ActiveRecord mechanics, underlying Rails conventions, relational query tuning, and background processing systems.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on software development experience across a secondary enterprise backend language or framework natively utilizing Backend workflows (e.g., Python/Django, Node.js, Java).
  • Practical familiarity integrating frontend user interfaces built on modern component libraries such as React or Vue.
  • Demonstrated capacity to independently architect, scope, and take complete feature-level ownership across fragmented, fast-moving project lifecycles.
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and consultative communication skills, enabling seamless consensus building and technical compromise across engineering boundaries.
  • Rigorous test-driven development habits, displaying deep familiarity authoring automated test suites via RSpec or Minitest.
  • Solid conceptual anchoring in security compliance standards, web accessibility guidelines, and structural system patterns.
  • Visa Sponsorship Context: Candidate must possess permanent legal authorization to work inside the United States without current or future sponsorship needs.

Preferred Strategic Indicators (Nice to Have)

  • Direct production experience utilizing modern compiled languages like Go alongside distributed high-throughput queuing engines like Kafka.
  • Applied understanding of modern automated infrastructure layers, explicitly including AWS cloud nodes, Terraform provisioning, Docker virtualization, and Kubernetes clusters.
  • Prior technical history operating inside a dedicated digital consulting, software agency, or client-facing product delivery environment.
  • Exploratory involvement creating industry thought leadership materials including technical blog compositions, webinars, or system documentations.

What We Offer

  • Vetted, Outcome-Driven Enterprise Consulting Salary Blueprint: A competitive baseline annual salary of $160,000 to $180,000, tightly tailored to your technical depth and platform engineering precision.
  • The spectacular professional canvas to own, architect, and transform mission-critical software systems across an expansive corporate client portfolio.
  • Profound work-from-home remote parameters providing an autonomous virtual office space, flexible scheduling options, and a performance-linked bonus structure.
  • Comprehensive health wellness architectures encompassing full medical, dental, and vision insurance provisions.
  • Immediate financial future proofing via corporate-sponsored 401(k) retirement mechanisms alongside dedicated paid parental leave frameworks.
