About Airbnb: Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. As the global landscape shifts, we navigate complex engineering and operational transformations with speed and intention. Our internal BizTech division, specifically the Collaboration Products team, owns the critical enterprise systems that our distributed workforce relies on to plan, build, and deliver. We are moving fast to modernize our internal software stacks, retire architectural technical debt, and integrate advanced AI capabilities that directly multiply the productivity and output quality of every team we serve across the enterprise.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly autonomous, hands-on technical leader to step into the role of Senior Systems Engineer, BizTech, under a permanent, full-time remote arrangement open across eligible states in the United States. In this technical leadership position, you will act as the principal subject matter expert and hands-on administrator driving the total modernization, structural migration, and governance of our core enterprise collaboration systems. Shifting completely away from routine client-facing software scripting, isolated front-end UI visual tuning, or simple back-office desktop support, you will take charge of deprecating legacy Data Center instances and completing our transition to secure cloud architectures. This position requires an engineering authority with 7+ years of specialized administration experience who constructs scalable infrastructure systems natively using DevOps principles, optimizes custom workflow automation using JavaScript and REST APIs, designs secure data-sharing environments, and introduces contextually appropriate machine learning solutions to eliminate operational toil across high-volume internal environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enterprise Architecture & Cloud Migration: Lead and execute complex enterprise platform migrations from on-premise Data Center structures to high-performance Cloud environments, ensuring data integrity, macro compatibility, and zero-downtime cutover experiences natively utilizing DevOps and cloud governance standards.
  • Custom Workflow Engineering: Architect and implement custom permission schemes, advanced issue type hierarchies, custom validator frameworks, and complex post-functions aligned with information security best practices.
  • Internal Service Delivery Automation: Design and configure advanced internal service management setups, incorporating strict SLAs, conditional routing queues, secure approval configurations, and custom submission forms.
  • Proprietary App Development & Integrations: Build and maintain custom internal Forge applications, advanced analytics modules, and cross-platform integrations using the native REST APIs, JavaScripting, and JSON, strictly bypassing unstable marketplace products to maintain a strong security and legal posture.
  • Access Management & Security Hardening: Supervise access controls, user lifecycle management pipelines, and identity provider synchronizations via LDAP and Okta, continuously optimizing license tiers and system security.
  • AI-Powered Tooling & Automation: Configure and expand advanced automation rules and Atlassian Rovo AI agents, evaluating emerging ML capabilities to responsibly integrate automated productivity layers across internal team workspaces.
  • Testing, Scrum Leadership, & On-Call: Lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT) workflows by designing detailed test scripts, facilitate Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, retrospectives) as needed, and participate in rotational on-call escalations to troubleshoot critical platform events.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • A minimum of 7+ years of professional, hands-on enterprise systems administration experience managing large-scale collaboration infrastructure (Jira Software, Jira Service Management) across dense user ecosystems.
  • Advanced Query & Scripting Command: Masterful expertise with complex JQL (Jira Query Language) for advanced reporting filters alongside proven history configuring native automation engines using JavaScript and JSON.
  • API Integration Fluency: Hands-on experience executing data extractions, imports, and custom reporting pipelines via REST APIs using specialized tools like Postman (GET/PUT/POST).
  • Enterprise Access Security: Proven experience connecting core enterprise tools with modern centralized identity providers via LDAP and Okta infrastructure ecosystems.
  • Strong background preparing, organizing, and leading User Acceptance Testing (UAT) cycles, defining comprehensive scripts and managing defect tracking databases.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to translate highly abstract technical system processes into clear business language for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Location Context: Position operates under remote geographic guidelines open to qualified engineering professionals based in the USA within states where Airbnb possesses a registered legal entity.

Preferred Strategic Indicators (Nice to Have)

  • Working familiarity with Atlassian Rovo and AI/ML capabilities, demonstrating a practical focus on AI ethics and value-aligned automation.
  • Formal technical agile certifications, such as a certified SAFe Agilist or SAFe Scrum Master.
  • Familiarity with complementary enterprise operations systems like Slack, Asana, Figma, Airtable, and Miro.

What We Offer

  • Competitive Enterprise Compensation Layout: A highly competitive annual salary structure calibrated to match elite tech industry standards, alongside performance-linked review frameworks.
  • 100% remote workspace flexibility, allowing you to drive internal systems architecture from your optimized domestic home office.
  • Unlimited Paid Time Off (PTO): Comprehensive unlimited vacation days to ensure you recharge your analytical batteries, paired with corporate support for standard national holidays.
  • Robust medical, dental, and vision healthcare coverage structures extending fully to you and your legal dependents.
  • Retirement savings stability through an enterprise 401(k) retirement structure with immediate vesting privileges.
  • Generous paid parental leave models, continuous learning allowances, and inclusion within diverse Employee Resource Groups (ERGs).
