Senior Solution Architect

We are seeking an experienced Senior Solution Architect to join our consulting engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing scalable, production-grade architectures for enterprise software systems. You will work closely with engineering teams and client stakeholders to architect distributed systems, cloud platforms, APIs, and data flows that support business-critical applications. As a senior technical authority, you will define architectural standards, guide complex implementations, and help ensure that the systems we deliver are scalable, secure, reliable, and maintainable in production environments.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & System Design

• Design end-to-end architectures for enterprise applications, cloud platforms, and distributed backend systems.
• Define system-level architectures spanning services, APIs, integrations, and data stores.
• Ensure high availability, scalability, performance, and cost efficiency across the systems you design.
• Make and document architectural decisions, including trade-off analysis and technology selection.

Platform & Cloud Engineering

• Architect cloud-native and hybrid solutions across compute, networking, storage, and identity.
• Design data flows and integration patterns, including event-driven and streaming architectures.
• Define approaches to CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, and operational readiness.
• Guide modernization and migration of legacy systems toward maintainable, scalable architectures.

Technical Leadership

• Provide architectural leadership to engineering teams delivering client projects.
• Establish best practices for system design, security, integration, observability, and reliability.
• Conduct architecture and design reviews, and mentor engineers on building scalable software systems.

Cross-Team Collaboration

• Work closely with backend engineers, data engineers, frontend engineers, and DevOps teams to design cohesive solutions.
• Partner with client stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into scalable technical architectures.
• Help guide technical decisions and scoping during project planning and delivery.

Innovation & Thought Leadership

• Stay current with advancements in distributed systems, cloud platforms, and software architecture.
• Identify opportunities to improve the scalability, resilience, and efficiency of systems across projects.
• Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and architectural standards across Janea's engineering teams.

To be considered for this position, you must have the following qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, distributed systems, or backend architecture.
• 5+ years in an architect or senior technical leadership capacity, owning system design end to end.
• Strong experience architecting large-scale, production-grade software systems.
• Deep understanding of microservices, distributed systems, API design, and integration patterns.
• Strong programming experience in Python, Java, C#, C++, or similar languages.
• Experience designing systems in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, data pipelines, and relational and non-relational data stores.
• Working knowledge of security, performance, observability, and cost as first-class architectural concerns.
• Excellent system design, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills.
• Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Ideal candidates will also have:

• Experience working in client-facing consulting or professional services environments designing enterprise-scale systems.
• Experience supporting pre-sales work: solution shaping, technical proposals, and delivery estimation.
• Experience modernizing or replatforming legacy systems in large enterprises.
• Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, Pulumi) and platform engineering practices.
• Experience designing systems under regulatory or compliance constraints (SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR, PCI DSS).
• Experience with high-throughput or low-latency systems, or systems-level and native engineering.
• Relevant certifications (AWS Solutions Architect Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or equivalent).
