The Customer Experience (CX) team at Kard owns the systems that power the end-to-end rewards experience, including transaction matching, the cellar pipeline, offer ingestion and delivery (partner integrations like Rewards Network and SEATED), cell-based routing architecture, and the Support API for internal and partner-facing tooling. As a Senior Software Engineer II, you will design and build scalable services for ingesting, matching, and settling transactions, while improving operational readiness, testing, and documentation.

This role focuses on issuer and partner-facing systems, collaborating with Support, Design, and Product through Kard’s Shape Up-based pitch cycle. You will drive pitches end-to-end, participate in on-call rotations, and help manage growing transaction volumes and issuer interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and build scalable services for transaction matching, cellar pipeline, and offer ingestion, primarily using Go and Postgres for new work, with existing services in TypeScript and MongoDB.
  • Own features from discovery to production rollout, including writing launch/rollback plans for transaction or offer data changes.
  • Participate in on-call, incident response, and IOC triage, focusing on root-cause fixes for issues like ingestion validation gaps, UID/timestamp mismatches, and Datadog alert coverage.
  • Enhance issuer/client-facing APIs and SDKs to improve reliability, clarity, and self-service for partners and Support teams, reducing engineering escalations.
  • Lead technical decisions and foster cross-team collaboration (Product, Design, Engineering) to advance CX strategic goals.
  • Champion improvements in authentication, rate limiting, deployment, observability, error handling, and test coverage (unit, integration, end-to-end) for resilience and quality.
  • Mentor engineers, contribute to design/architecture discussions, and consolidate or deprecate legacy services.
  • Write clear documentation and playbooks for local development, deployment, and troubleshooting to ensure knowledge sharing.

Desired Skills

  • Expertise in Go and/or TypeScript, with experience building scalable, secure, high-performance backend services.
  • Experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures (SQS, Temporal), and databases (Postgres, MongoDB).
  • Proficiency with AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes/EKS, and serverless components (Lambda).
  • Background in transaction-processing, matching, or ingestion pipelines with a focus on correctness and idempotency.
  • Ability to lead technical projects from discovery to production, including writing clear specs and driving cross-team collaboration.
  • Experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex) for complex feature planning and implementation while maintaining design and quality ownership.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive, collaborative engineering culture.
  • Availability during U.S. core business hours and willingness to travel for company meetings.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with card-linked offers, loyalty, fintech, or transaction-intensive marketplaces.
  • Experience with partner data ingestion (file-based or API) and production validation/monitoring.
  • Familiarity with Cognito-based auth, API gateway enforcement (e.g., Envoy), or claims-based authorization.
  • Experience with Databricks or migrating services from legacy stacks (e.g., Databricks to Postgres/Lakebase) without disrupting production.
  • Contributions to open-source projects or tech communities.
  • Track record of success in startup environments with empathy, collaboration, and productivity in remote work.

Kard (operating at getkard.com) is a rewards-as-a-service platform engineered for modern financial institutions and merchants to transform customer loyalty. Founded in 2015 by Ben Mackinnon, CEO and active angel investor in fintech and adtech, and headquartered in New York City, Kard redefines how rewards programs operate by leveraging predictive AI and first-party data. Unlike traditional loyalty systems that rely on static incentives, Kard’s commerce media network delivers hyper-personalized rewards tied to real-time spending behavior, driving measurable engagement and conversion. Under the hood, its API-driven architecture integrates with card issuers and retailers, enabling seamless, card-linked offers that adapt dynamically to individual consumer preferences. This allows financial institutions to enhance customer retention, while merchants gain access to targeted advertising and promotional tools powered by granular transaction data. Though privately held, Kard’s growth reflects its strategic positioning at the intersection of fintech and commerce media.
