Job Description
About the Role: The AI Platform Engineering team at Smartsheet is looking for a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer II to build the AI Platform Foundation. You will architect high-level abstractions, standardize the AI Developer Path, and engineer mission-critical AI Trust & Safety systems to serve as the backbone for all Smartsheet AI experiences.
What You'll Do
- Lead the design and ownership of the core AI infrastructure to build a robust, multi-tenant environment.
- Architect high-level abstractions and "Golden Path" APIs to democratize AI development across Smartsheet.
- Establish mission-critical monitoring, evaluation pipelines, and quality assurance layers to ensure AI safety and data privacy.
- Partner with principal engineers to define the technical roadmap for Smartsheet's AI infrastructure.
What You Bring
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years working directly with LLMs in production.
- Deep, hands-on experience with prompt engineering, context engineering, and strong working knowledge of RAG architectures.
- Experience building or extending LLM evaluation frameworks and strong Python skills (Databricks, Delta tables).
- Bonus: Experience with Kubernetes (EKS/GKE), IaC (Terraform), Vector Databases (Pinecone, Milvus), AI Gateways (LiteLLM), and LLM Observability tools.
