Fully remote and global, Camunda is transforming into an AI-first organization, leveraging Agentic AI to automate, orchestrate intelligent processes, and elevate human contributions across teams. Named a 2025 Great Place to Work certified company and ranked Visionary in the 2025 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Business Orchestration and Automation Technologies, Camunda is also ranked 3rd in Flexa's 2026 Most Flexible Companies list.

About the Role:

Camunda is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Engineering Operations Team. This high-impact role involves fostering engineering excellence by creating, implementing, and maintaining scalable core processes to enhance development efficiency, reliability, and quality within the Camunda 8 codebase and engineering-wide organization processes.

As Camunda 8 evolves into the leader of the agentic orchestration market, your mission is to ensure our internal development lifecycle is as autonomous and frictionless as possible. You will collaborate with infrastructure and core software engineering teams to ensure smooth workflows, robust dependency management, and continuous improvement of CI processes in the era of AI-first development, enabling Camunda 8 engineering teams to focus on core product development.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Lead the shift toward an automated engineering lifecycle by implementing and orchestrating unified processes in the Camunda 8 repositories, including AI-assisted processes like release management, autonomous dependency updates, and proactive CVE remediation.

  • Continuously optimize CI/release health and development velocity using a metric-driven approach to identify and eliminate bottlenecks in AI-first workflows.

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to implement CI strategy and engineering best practices, creating a positive impact within the Engineering organization.

  • Identify friction points in engineering workflows and evolve them into automated, self-sustaining systems capable of handling the increased volume of an AI-augmented workforce by effectively partnering with software engineers, engineering leaders, and cross-team stakeholders.

What You Bring:

Must Haves:

  • Strong Software Engineering experience with a track record of delivering results, preferably in Java.

    • Specialization: Fullstack or Backend

  • Passion for engineering operational excellence, including CI/CD optimization, dependency management, release process enhancements, metrics collection, and build efficiency (DevOps mindset), with a track record of owning and developing engineering processes end-to-end.

  • Strong experience in CI build tools (GitHub Actions, Java ecosystem - Maven, Docker) and automations (Shell/Python) in complex projects (e.g., monorepositories).

  • Strong collaborator across teams, delivering impactful solutions in a platform-like environment.

  • Experience in developer experience tools and process optimization, as well as driving AI adoption.

You thrive in taking ownership of the codebase, deployment, and software operation. You are comfortable with the “you build it, you run it” mindset.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience designing efficient cross-team operations.

  • Practical experience with Camunda or other BPMN systems.

Camunda is a globally recognized enterprise software company that provides an open-source platform for workflow and decision automation, operating as the "Universal Process Orchestrator" for modern digital businesses. Founded in Berlin, the company is dedicated to taming the complexity of end-to-end processes across disjointed tech stacks. Under the hood, Camunda leverages industry-standard Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) and Decision Model and Notation (DMN) to create a common visual language between business stakeholders and software engineers. At its core is Camunda 8, a highly scalable, cloud-native orchestration engine capable of coordinating complex endpoints—spanning microservices, RPA bots, legacy mainframes, human tasks, and cutting-edge AI agents. Their primary target audience consists of software developers, enterprise architects, and IT transformation leaders at large-scale, global organizations, particularly within highly regulated sectors like financial services, insurance, and telecommunications. What sets Camunda apart in the competitive Business Process Management (BPM) space is its fiercely developer-friendly, open architecture. Rather than trapping enterprises in rigid, low-code "black boxes," Camunda seamlessly integrates into modern CI/CD pipelines, allowing technical teams to build highly customized, composable workflow solutions with absolutely no vendor lock-in.
