Role Overview

The Senior Risk Manager will play a crucial role in supporting the business to embed the Risk Management Framework and manage and mitigate risks across the organisation. You will be responsible for liaising with the first line of defence to support them in identifying and understanding their risk profile, assessing the design and effectiveness of controls and procedures, ensuring these align with internal policies. This role requires a deep understanding of financial markets, trading practices, and global best practices for risk management frameworks.

What you’ll do

  • Ensure the organisation’s approach to the management of risk is aligned with its risk appetite and strategy.

  • Facilitate delivery and maintenance of Risk and Control Risk Assessments (RCSAs), ensuring appropriate oversight of risk identification, assessment, and treatment are performed in line with risk appetite.

  • Perform periodic independent second line of defence assurance through the delivery of individual controls testing and thematic assurance reviews.

  • Identify gaps in the control environment and work with the first line of defence to determine remediation plans, ensuring progress is tracked and reported on through governance.

  • Deliver Top-Down Risk Assessments through engaging with senior management and subject matter experts to identify material risks the firm is exposed to.

  • Maintenance of the legal entity Risk Register and overseeing the maintenance of thematic Risk Registers, including the Fraud Risk Register, Market Abuse Risk Register, and Business Wide Financial Crime Risk Assessment.

  • Participate in the ICARA process, ensuring all relevant risks are captured, quantified, and adequately stressed.

  • Provide oversight of risk events by working with first-line colleagues to understand the root cause of events, their impact on the firm, and what corrective and preventive actions are required to remediate.

  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of liquidity risk management.

  • Deliver coherent, transparent, and rigorous risk governance reporting.

  • Delivery of Risk projects to develop, evolve, and enhance both the design and embeddedness of the firm’s Risk Management Framework and supporting processes.

  • Provide an overview and challenge of the trading risk to which the firm is exposed.

  • Ensure appropriate horizon scanning processes are implemented to identify and manage emerging risks.

  • Provide second-line risk reviews for new product and feature launches, and strategic and regulatory change initiatives, ensuring risk is identified from the offset, with downstream impacts managed and aligned to risk appetite.

  • Support the identification and enhancement of both qualitative and quantitative risk appetite measures, ensuring these are tracked with any breach escalated and remediated in line with risk appetite.

  • Prepare and present thematic risk reports and assessments to senior management and governance bodies.

  • Foster a healthy Risk Culture by promoting the view that risk management is a universal responsibility, encouraging open and transparent discussions without fear of retaliation.

What you need to have

  • Extensive knowledge of risk management principles and practices.

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities.

  • High attention to detail and risk assessment skills.

  • Effective communication and leadership capabilities.

  • Understanding of the FCA’s MiFIDPRU framework, wind-down planning, and operational resilience.

  • Financial management, particularly capital and liquidity management.

  • Management and understanding of market risk in a retail client base.

  • Ability to develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.

  • Proficiency in risk management software and tools.

  • Outsourcing/TPRM experience is good to have.

What we offer

  • Unique challenges that will help you grow and realise your potential really fast.

  • Opportunity to make a big impact—you will create products used by millions of investors to build wealth.

  • Work with smart, high-performing colleagues with a common goal in a flat, cross-functional team structure.
