In the United States, Affirm covers roughly half of all e-commerce volume and has direct access to nearly all active digital buyers. Our mission, as part of the Merchant and Platform Engineering team, is to expand corporate revenue pathways by helping global merchants and enterprise platforms acquire, convert, and retain valued customers through industry-leading, frictionless point-of-sale (POS) checkout experiences. Come shape the future of transparent consumer finance with us.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly collaborative, technically profound, and partner-centric Senior Partner Engineer (officially landing within our Senior Partner Solutions Engineer framework) to join our core Merchant and Platform engineering division under a permanent, full-time remote model open across Canada. In this highly cross-functional technical leadership seat, you will act as the primary engineering authority anchoring technical alignments between our internal product teams and high-growth commercial platform partners like Shopify and Stripe. Shifting entirely away from basic database maintenance logs, entry-level helpdesk ticketing, or non-technical file coordination, you will direct an active merchant infrastructure integration, API solution mapping, and cross-platform architecture laboratory. This position requires a systems-engineering authority with 4+ years of customer-facing experience who builds partner integration systems fluidly natively using Shopify capabilities, evaluates e-commerce data schemas cleanly, maps custom webhooks and RESTful web services, and drives technical project plans confidently to streamline consumer payment architectures at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Partner Technical Leadership: Serve as the primary engineering consultant and subject matter expert (SME) for high-stakes external partnership alignments, advising platforms like Shopify and Stripe on technical deployment strategies natively utilizing Shopify and payment configurations.
- End-to-End Integration Architecture: Formulate comprehensive project delivery specs—encompassing modular solution designs, operational task breakdowns, technical roadmap estimations, and regression testing criteria.
- Technical Escalation & Problem Triage: Function as the ultimate technical point of escalation for internal commercial teams and external developer groups, resolving complex implementation, routing, and payment processing bottlenecks.
- Platform Strategy Advisory: Provide proactive recommendations concerning platform evolution, security positioning, cloud infrastructure, and tool optimization to enhance consumer checkout workflows.
- Ecosystem Documentation Engineering: Author and continuously improve detailed integration matrices, code runbooks, user experience guidelines, and developer-facing API reference materials to expedite onboarding velocity.
- System Telemetry & Monitoring: Design and monitor automated alerting protocols and logging systems to identify payload tracking errors or transactional friction across interconnected systems.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- A minimum of 4+ years of proven professional history operating inside a Solutions Engineering, Partner Engineering, Sales Engineering, Technical Account Management, or Solutions Architecture capacity.
- Multi-Language Reading Proficiency: Strong, foundational ability to parse, audit, and understand multiple production-grade programming languages to support external code integrations.
- Deep practical familiarity with global e-commerce software environments, transactional data architectures, and checkout lifecycle variables.
- Core Web Technology Command: Hands-on, granular understanding of web interaction primitives including JSON, HTML, REST APIs, and event-driven Webhook technologies.
- Proven background coordinating complex technical delivery timelines across matrixed, multi-stakeholder organizational teams while keeping milestones on schedule.
- Location Context: Position operates under 100% remote parameters open to qualified engineering professionals based anywhere within Canada. Please note that visa sponsorship is not provided for this role.
Preferred Strategic Indicators (Nice to Have)
- Comprehensive technical understanding of diverse payment network components, stretching cleanly across large-scale e-commerce platform nodes, merchant payment processors, transactional gateways, and digital wallets.
- Prior experience implementing user-interface elements seamlessly alongside complex back-end cloud software primitives and enterprise developer microservices.
What We Offer
- Transparent & Competitive Canadian Pay Architecture: An annual base salary range of $133,000 – $183,000 CAD (Pay Grade L), with incoming talent typically starting at the base benchmark, supplemented by Grade 4 equity reward models through Affirm Holdings, Inc.
- 100% remote-first operational freedom, giving you the control to map out your architecture tracks from your optimized Canadian home workspace.
- Comprehensive health insurance benefits, featuring 100% subsidized premium coverage for medical, dental, and vision lines extending to you and your legal dependents.
- Flexible Spending Wallets: Generous monthly corporate stipends dedicated to technology optimization, food deliveries, and lifestyle wellness needs.
