About Looma

Looma is an in-store digital media platform focused on storytelling, education, and recommendations. Their network of in-store screens helps retailers modernize and monetize their stores while enabling brands to tell their story directly at the point of decision. Content is produced or edited by Relay™, their global network of independent filmmakers, editors, and creators specializing in point-of-decision content.

The Role

Looma is seeking a Senior or Staff Software Engineer to transform the Looma Marketplace product into essential software for advertisers and retailers. This role is ideal for a product-minded builder who thrives in ambiguity, moves quickly with minimal guidance, and leverages AI coding agents effectively. You will work on a small product team, tackling business problems from discovery to production, with a backend-first approach while contributing across the web stack.

The current tech stack includes GCP, Go services, BigQuery, Postgres, Redis, and Angular. Experience with all tools is not mandatory, but strong engineers should be adaptable and quick learners.

The responsibilities are divided into three primary areas:

  • Marketplace product delivery (55%)
  • Engineering quality and architecture (25%)
  • Integrations, data, internal tooling, and emerging needs (20%)

Marketplace Product Delivery

  • Own and deliver Looma Marketplace features end-to-end, translating advertiser, retailer, and internal business needs into production-ready software.
  • Work primarily on the backend using Go services, GCP, Postgres, Redis, and BigQuery, while contributing to the Angular frontend as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with a Product Manager, Product Designer, and a long-tenured backend contractor to turn ambiguity into clear decisions and shipped software.
  • Balance speed and craftsmanship, learning from production and adjusting course without compromising quality or user experience. Success is measured by increasing the team’s ability to reliably ship high-quality software for stakeholders.

Engineering Quality and Architecture

  • Evolve the backend architecture beyond a conventional API-and-database setup by introducing asynchronous workflows, queues, concurrency, intelligent caching, and clearer service boundaries.
  • Improve branch protections, branch naming conventions, CI/CD consistency, automated integration testing, observability, and system-performance dashboards.
  • Make pragmatic code-review and remediation decisions, such as rewriting code to demonstrate better paths, coaching peers, or establishing reusable standards and automation.
  • Maintain high velocity while addressing technical debt that hinders delivery and reliability.

Integrations, Data, Internal Tooling, and Emerging Needs

  • Oversee integrations, data pipelines, infrastructure, and internal tooling that support Marketplace and adjacent business needs.
  • Debug cross-system failures and develop pragmatic tooling or automation to enhance team efficiency and dependability.
  • Integrate AI-assisted engineering workflows with clear plans, review gates, testing, and verification mechanisms.
  • Contribute across repositories and problem domains when business priorities require engineering support.

Attributes

  • You have independently built and shipped a meaningful production software product in a small, ambiguous environment.
  • You have significantly improved the engineering quality of an existing production codebase while continuing to deliver features.
  • You exhibit high ownership and a bias for action, possess strong product judgment and user empathy, maintain technical curiosity, humility, and a willingness to speak up.
  • You are deeply AI-native, routinely delegating implementation tasks to coding agents and building verification loops to ensure sound outcomes.
  • You make pragmatic trade-offs between speed and quality, raising standards without using perfection as an excuse to halt shipping.
