About Fi: Fi is an elite, high-growth Series B technology startup backed by top-tier venture firms and founded by pioneers from Square, Google, Oura, Peloton, and Uber. We are on a mission to completely transform the human-pet relationship by developing cutting-edge IoT technology and intelligent software primitives to revolutionize what it means to be a pet parent. By leveraging our team cross-disciplinary hardware and cloud expertise, we provide millions of users across the United States with real-time GPS location tracking, activity profiling, sleep analytics, and behavioral monitoring layers to help pets live longer, healthier lives.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly autonomous, code-fluent, and product-minded Senior Mobile Software Engineer - Android to join our lean mobile team under a flexible remote or on-site model open across the United States. In this high-leverage client-tier seat, you will partner directly with the Director of Mobile to design, build, and scale our core consumer-facing Android application from early stages to massive network volumes. Shifting completely away from hybrid web wrappers, routine database configuration scripts, or back-office internal platform tooling, you will direct an active native mobile layout, asynchronous sensor synchronization, and visual rendering laboratory. This position requires an engineering authority with 6+ years of experience who builds native architectures fluidly natively using Android and Kotlin frameworks, evaluates resource constraints cleanly to optimize Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) or location services components, participates in thorough code reviews, and executes fluid interfaces confidently using Jetpack Compose to deliver premium, intuitive user experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Core Native Android Architecture: Design, implement, and maintain highly performant, scalable consumer-facing mobile applications natively utilizing Android SDK components and modern architecture patterns.
- Dynamic Interface Engineering: Architect complex, fluid, and highly interactive user interfaces from the ground up using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose (leveraging legacy Android Views only where structurally required).
- IoT & Hardware Telemetry Integration: Connect, calibrate, and optimize background location trackers, mapping APIs, and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication channels to stream device data seamlessly.
- Lifecycle Software Governance: Take complete operational ownership over the full software development lifecycle—encompassing design estimation, implementation, instrumentation, testing, production deployment, and maintenance.
- Performance Optimization & Tuning: Elevate product responsiveness and battery efficiency metrics through strict performance tuning, code refactoring, and regression testing protocols.
- Engineering Strategy Advisory: Collaborate with distributed team cells to formulate internal coding conventions, continuous deployment workflows, and modern architecture standards across the mobile organization.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- A minimum of 6+ years of verified professional history operating within a Mobile Software Engineer, Native Android Developer, or closely related technical software capacity.
- Expert Android SDK Command: Profound, granular command over the native Android software landscape, demonstrating master-level coding fluency using Kotlin and modern architecture layers.
- Proven track record building, shipping, and maintaining successful consumer-facing mobile applications at scale within a high-growth or startup environment.
- Solid experience integrating asynchronous RESTful APIs, background hardware location polling services, and multi-tenant cloud backends.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication strengths in English, with an established capability to translate abstract design layouts into performant native code components.
- Location Context: Position operates under remote or on-site parameters open to qualified mobile developers residing permanently inside the United States.
Preferred Strategic Indicators (Nice to Have)
- Direct production-grade experience engineering background processes for connected consumer products, Internet of Things (IoT) hardware, or BLE communication accessories.
- Prior background configuring automated build testing pipelines, mobile asset registries, or cloud-integrated analytics platforms.
- Familiarity with visual prototyping suites like Figma to evaluate interface structures smoothly.
What We Offer
- Opportunistic Startup Salary Scale: A highly competitive annual base salary range of $150,000 – $190,000 USD, evaluated opportunistically around your specific technical strengths, supplemented by Series B corporate equity compensation.
- Absolute workspace flexibility, empowering you to operate 100% remote within the United States or collaborate out of our dog-friendly corporate headquarters.
- Top-Notch Universal Health Coverage: Fully subsidized medical, dental, and vision insurance premium plans protecting you and your legal dependents.
- Premium Health & Wellness Perks: Free, unlimited corporate access channels to elite mental health and primary care platforms including One Medical, Kindbody, and Talkspace.
- BarkBack Program Initiatives: A dedicated $500 annual corporate donation allowance matching a dog or pet charity of your individual choice.
- Free premium corporate Fi Membership tiers and smart collars for your furry family members, along with generous gifting allowances for friends.
