Senior Legal Counsel, Commercial, IP & AI

About the Role: At Monzo, we're on a mission to make money work for everyone. We're looking for a Senior Legal Counsel, Commercial, IP & AI to join our UK Legal team. You will have day-to-day responsibility for advising on commercial contracts, intellectual property, and artificial intelligence matters for our UK business as it scales.

What You'll Do

• Lead on commercial contracts, including direct drafting and negotiating, and supervise a panel of commercial legal contractors.
• Support the delivery of our intellectual property strategy (clearance searches, registrations, and oppositions).
• Act as a subject matter expert on AI-related matters, including the regulation of and contracting for AI technologies.
• Manage relationships with external legal counsel and optimize legal spend.
• Develop processes, playbooks, and training to increase the efficiency of commercial legal advice across Monzo.

What You Bring

• 5+ years of relevant post-qualification experience (PQE) in private practice or in-house (tech/financial institution).
• Deep experience in all aspects of contract law and advising on IP matters (copyright, trademarks).
• Experience with artificial intelligence, particularly legal issues related to generative AI.
• Familiarity with financial services regulation and transactional elements of data protection (DPA, SCCs).
• A strategic, problem-solving mindset comfortable with ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
