In this role, you will own the frontend customization and extension of the APS Viewer, building professional-grade workflows on top of complex design and construction data rendered directly in the browser.

You will focus on extending, optimizing, and integrating visualization capabilities to support domain-specific CAD and BIM use cases while ensuring high performance, usability, scalability, and maintainability.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead frontend development efforts centered around Autodesk Platform Services (APS) Viewer.
  • Design, develop, and maintain custom APS Viewer extensions supporting CAD and BIM workflows.
  • Build advanced visualization capabilities, including model selection, isolation, sectioning, measurement, markup, model comparison, and related user interactions.
  • Customize rendering behavior, interaction patterns, and user interface overlays using WebGL, SVG, JavaScript, and related technologies.
  • Develop and extend three.js-based visualization capabilities within and around the APS Viewer ecosystem.
  • Integrate viewer-based experiences with backend services supporting model data, metadata, and business workflows.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management, UX Design, and backend engineering teams to design intuitive, high-quality user experiences.
  • Optimize rendering performance, responsiveness, and usability for large-scale models and complex datasets.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve visualization, rendering, and interaction-related issues across supported browsers and environments.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to frontend development best practices, code quality standards, and technical design reviews.
  • Contribute to architectural discussions related to frontend visualization, graphics rendering, and user experience design.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Significant hands-on experience developing web-based graphics applications using technologies such as WebGL, SVG, and three.js.
  • Strong expertise in JavaScript and modern frontend development practices.
  • Solid understanding of browser-based rendering concepts and graphics programming fundamentals.
  • Experience building complex, graphics-intensive web applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize performance, scalability, and usability for large datasets and visualization workloads.
  • Experience integrating frontend applications with backend APIs and services.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Significant hands-on experience with Autodesk Platform Services (APS) Viewer, including development of custom Viewer extensions.
  • Experience with three.js or similar WebGL frameworks.
  • Experience with GLSL, shaders, or advanced rendering techniques.
  • Proficiency with modern frontend frameworks and tooling, including React or similar technologies.
  • Experience integrating APS services beyond the Viewer, including Model Derivative and Data Management APIs.
  • Experience supporting cloud-based or SaaS software platforms.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and contributing technical leadership within engineering teams.

TRAVEL

  • Up to 10% travel for team collaboration, customer engagements, workshops, conferences, and business needs.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience working with BIM-specific workflows and AEC-focused visualization solutions.
  • Strong foundation in 3D mathematics, geometry, and spatial reasoning.
  • Experience implementing custom picking, hit testing, overlays, or advanced interaction models within visualization environments.
  • Familiarity with browser-based performance profiling, GPU debugging, and rendering optimization techniques.
  • Background in architecture, engineering, construction, or related design software industries.
