Core Responsibilities

You'll act as the technical driver of our customer onboarding flows and private area, working closely with Marketing and internal stakeholders while collaborating with international engineering teams across Europe. Your focus will be primarily on Frontend, but a Fullstack mindset is a significant plus.

The Octopus Energy tech team is responsible for the sites, services, and tariffs used by millions of customers worldwide. From building cutting-edge time-of-use tariffs to gamifying user experiences, you'll tackle a wide variety of exciting challenges to push the energy revolution forward.

As a Senior Frontend Engineer, you will:

  • Collaborate internationally: Work closely with Octopus Energy ES and various global teams to develop and integrate new features.
  • Own key product modules: Contribute directly to the private area, bill management, saving sessions, customer onboarding optimization, and marketing dashboards, all from a frontend perspective.
  • Drive fast-paced impact: Deliver code that directly impacts customers. Our priorities adapt to real-world needs, meaning the pace is fast and the feedback cycle is quick.
  • Thrive in an agile culture: Enjoy flat hierarchies and an open environment that fosters innovation, flexibility, and creativity.
  • Stay flexible: Be open to working across different areas of the business and optionally get involved in backend-related work (Python/Django, GraphQL) if you have the interest and skills.

Come as you are: At Octopus, we believe that diverse teams build better products. We foster an open, collaborative environment where authentic communication and mutual support are key.

Requirements

Fluent spoken English is absolutely essential. The team is international, so English will be the language you use daily.

On the technical side, you should have:

  • Strong, proven experience as a Senior Frontend Engineer, with a solid grasp of modern frontend architecture.
  • Deep expertise in TypeScript and React.
  • Hands-on experience with Next.js, ideally hosted on Vercel.
  • Experience working with GraphQL as a data layer.
  • Comfort with CSS-in-JS solutions (experience with PandaCSS is a plus).
  • Solid testing practices using tools like Vitest, React Testing Library, and Playwright.
  • Experience working within a monorepo structure.
  • A flexible, collaborative mindset and comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Nice to have:

  • Interest or experience in Backend development, particularly Python (Django).
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL.
  • A Fullstack mindset: curiosity about the full picture, not just the frontend layer.

View Company Profile

Octopus Energy (operating under octopus.energy, legally Octopus Energy Group Limited) is the premier, enterprise-grade renewable energy technology platform, clean utility pioneer, and global green asset orchestration powerhouse engineered to act as the definitive, high-visibility retail energy supply, decentralized grid management, and smart meter time-of-use tariff layer for tens of millions of homes and commercial entities worldwide. Founded in 2015 by visionary tech and energy entrepreneurs Greg Jackson (CEO), Stuart Jackson (CFO), Pete Miller, and AJ Lawrence, the corporation completely eliminates the severe systemic friction of traditional, fossil-heavy energy provisioning—where legacy utility providers encounter extreme customer dissatisfaction, billing opacity, and rigid infrastructure traps that block renewable adoption—by deploying its proprietary cloud-based "Kraken" tech stack. Moving far beyond passive power delivery lines or traditional regional monopolies, Octopus natively unifies hyper-flexible time-of-use digital pricing engines (such as the wholesale-pegged Octopus Tracker and half-hourly Agile Octopus), consumer heat pump systems, domestic battery arrays, electric vehicle concierge infrastructure, and commercial renewable generation management into a high-availability digital utility network. Serving as a mission-critical clean tech operator across the UK, Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific, the collective manages over 11 million active accounts globally while its core software platform, Kraken, is contracted to orchestrate more than 40 million energy and water accounts worldwide. Reflecting its immense market dominance and investor validation, the high-growth giant commands an expansive institutional asset framework backed by over $1.96 billion in venture and private equity funding—supported by top-tier capital architects including Generation Investment Management, CPP Investments, Tokyo Gas, Origin Energy, and major funding expansions that value the enterprise at approximately $9 billion. Under the hood, its technology framework utilizes advanced machine learning engines designed to balance distributed energy resources with real-time supply and demand, high-frequency smart meter parsing pipelines, and developer-friendly data routing endpoints optimized to manage massive multi-region transactional billing logs with absolute precision and sub-second execution latency. What sets Octopus Energy apart is its uncompromising dedication to replacing fragmented, legacy utility models with an "Internet of Energy" that combines mathematical price predictability, hands-on customer-first service, and scalable grid decarbonization; by bridging the gap between performance-intensive relational software automation and front-row global climate transformation goals, the corporation remains the definitive cornerstone of modern algorithmic energy technology and global green utility infrastructure transformation.
