Senior Data Architect / Cloud Data Engineering Lead (Azure Focus)

The Role

This position is ideal for a **Senior Data Architect** or **Cloud Data Engineering Lead** with a strong background in designing and implementing **Azure**-centric data architectures. You will lead small to medium-sized technical teams, allocate work, provide technical escalation and support, and represent the team in Agile ceremonies and client meetings. This role offers hands-on experience while developing leadership skills, mentoring junior team members, and collaborating with project, client, and company leadership.

You will work in an environment committed to technical excellence and client experience, focusing on **Azure** and related Microsoft technologies. Six months of experience on this team is equivalent to years of experience elsewhere due to the specialized nature of the work.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor small to medium-sized technical teams, including work allocation, technical escalation, and support.
• Design and implement logical and physical data models for **cloud** and **hybrid** data warehouse environments.
• Develop data architectures to support structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data formats.
• Oversee multiple full life-cycle data warehouse implementations.
• Understand and implement data architectures for data integration processing.
• Utilize data modeling technologies such as **ER/Studio** or **ER/Win**.
• Leverage **Microsoft Azure Data Platform** services including **Azure Data Lake Store**, **Azure Storage**, **Azure Synapse**, **Azure Data Factory**, **Azure SQL database**, **Logic Apps**, and **APIs**.
• Quickly learn, adopt, and apply new technologies.
• Perform data profiling and create source-to-target mappings.
• Provision and configure **Azure** data service resources.

Required Technical Skills

• Experience leading small to medium-sized technical teams.
• Expertise in designing and implementing logical and physical data models for cloud and hybrid data warehouse environments.
• Implementing data architectures to support structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
• Experience with multiple full life-cycle data warehouse implementations.
• Understanding of data architectures required to support data integration processing.
• Experience with data modeling technologies such as **ER/Studio** or **ER/Win**.
• Experience with **Microsoft Azure Data Platform** services including **Azure Data Lake Store**, **Azure Storage**, **Azure Synapse**, **Azure Data Factory**, **Azure SQL database**, **Logic Apps**, and **APIs**.
• Demonstrated ability to quickly learn, adopt, and apply new technologies.
• Data profiling and creation of source-to-target mappings.
• Ability to provision and configure **Azure** data service resources.

Detailed Required Skills

• Proficiency in **Python** and **SQL** scripting.
• Experience with **SQL** and **PySpark**.
• General competency in **cloud architecture**, capable of translating requirements into data pipelines.
• API knowledge is required; preference given to candidates who can create **APIs**.

Preferred Experience/Skills/Certifications

• Experience with **Microsoft Fabric**.
• Experience with **Azure Cosmos DB**, **Data Flows**, **Express Route**, and **Azure Active Directory**.
• Experience creating strategies to migrate customers from on-premise environments to **Azure**.
• Proficiency in **Power BI** and semantic modeling.
• Experience with **AWS Glue** and **Azure Data Factory**.
• Experience with **AWS S3** and **Azure Blob**.
• Experience with **AWS Athena** and **Azure Databricks**.
• Experience with **AWS Redshift** and **Azure Synapse**.
• Experience with **AWS ECS** and **Azure AKS**.
