Lone Rock Point builds and manages digital experiences for public sector and mission-driven organizations, including migrating NASA's website and supporting its streaming service. We're looking for a Senior Content Strategist who can transform a legacy site with years of accumulated content sprawl into a cohesive structure, voice, and governance model that the client’s own team can manage independently.

You’ll work directly with government clients and our design and development team to guide content from audit through migration and beyond. This role requires someone comfortable leading content workshops with high-level stakeholders, building information architecture, writing content models for custom WordPress blocks, and ensuring documentation and training handoffs are part of the process—not an afterthought.

What You'll Do

  • Lead content strategy engagements from discovery through launch, including content audits, gap analysis, and stakeholder interviews across multiple agency divisions
  • Design information architecture and taxonomy for large WordPress installations
  • Build content models for custom WordPress blocks and templates in partnership with designers and developers
  • Write and enforce editorial guidelines that meet the Plain Writing Act, Section 508, and WCAG 2.1 AA content requirements
  • Plan and execute content migrations, including inventorying legacy content and deciding what gets rewritten, consolidated, or retired
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions to hand off editorial ownership to client content teams
  • Use analytics and user research to justify structural and editorial recommendations, not just style preferences
  • Partner with content editors across the client’s organization to consolidate and organize duplicate or overlapping content and review against established governance standards
  • Execute hands-on content creation and editing, including producing original plain-language copy and overhauling legacy pages
  • Mentor other content strategists and content-adjacent team members

Requirements

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in content strategy, content design, or a closely related discipline, with a track record of owning strategy rather than executing someone else’s
  • Experience running full content audits and building information architecture for complex, multi-stakeholder websites
  • Working knowledge of WordPress content structures, including custom post types, taxonomies, and block-based editing
  • Experience writing and defending content in plain language for a general public audience
  • Familiarity with Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements as they apply to content, not just markup
  • Experience facilitating workshops or training with non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to translate research and audit findings into actionable recommendations for clients
  • Ability to work remotely and be self-directed
  • Proven ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously

Ideal Content & Editorial Experience

  • Experience working in an agency, consultancy, or as a contractor
  • Content modeling and taxonomy design
  • Information architecture and site mapping
  • Editorial governance frameworks and style guides
  • Content migration planning and legacy content audits
  • Experience with analytics tools such as Google Analytics or Parse.ly

Bonus Points if You Have

  • Prior experience with government, public-sector, or highly regulated clients
  • Familiarity with digital.gov guidance and the Plain Writing Act of 2010
  • Experience with UX writing or content design in a product team setting
  • Background in SEO strategy for large institutional websites
  • Experience training non-technical staff on WordPress editorial workflows
  • Prior experience acting as a mentor or leader on a content team
  • Experience with U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) content patterns or similar atomic design system approaches
