Project Manager (Shopify) - Remote Monthly Retainer

Manage Shopify store build and theme development projects for client merchants and brands, often handling multiple projects simultaneously.

Act as the primary point of contact for end clients, managing scope, timelines, status updates, and trade-offs in clear communication.

Lead an internal team of developers, designers, and QA professionals, ensuring tickets, priorities, and blockers are transparent and well-managed.

Translate merchant and brand goals into actionable, phased Shopify work that aligns with team capabilities and delivery timelines.

Leverage deep Shopify literacy—including themes, apps, checkout processes, content management, and launch constraints—to challenge unrealistic estimates and mitigate risks early.

Oversee projects from kickoff to launch, including ongoing theme maintenance across multiple brands.

Provide US clients with written updates and live calls during agreed Eastern Time overlap.

Use AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor) to draft plans, tickets, status updates, and risk assessments, but always review and refine outputs for client accuracy.

Ensure clean handoff documentation so other PMs or engineers can seamlessly take over without delays.

Requirements

• Proven agency Shopify PM experience managing projects for multiple merchants and brands, not just internal stores.
• Experience handling volume and multi-project workloads, often managing more than one brand simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
• Strong end-client ownership skills, including direct communication with merchants, founders, or brand stakeholders, and the ability to explain trade-offs without deflecting blame.
• Internal team leadership experience managing developers and designers, ensuring clear ticket assignments, ownership, and status updates.
• Solid Shopify literacy, including knowledge of themes, apps, checkout processes, content freezes, and launch windows. Familiarity with Liquid is not required, but understanding of best practices for Shopify delivery is essential.
• Familiarity with project management tools like Jira, Linear, Notion, or Asana.
• Experience using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor) to streamline planning and communication, with the ability to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs for accuracy.
• Proficiency in English at C1 level or higher for client calls and written updates.
• Availability during US hours (up to 5 PM EST) for live client coordination.
• Strong ownership habits, including honest timelines, proactive blocker identification, and completed launches without last-minute disappearances.
