Product Manager for AI-Assisted JavaScript App Security Product

Patchstack protects WordPress sites for hosts, agencies, and developers, and is now launching a security product for people building JavaScript apps with AI tools like Claude Code. This product is in its early stages, with promising signals from hosts and hackathons, but the team is still determining the ideal customer base, their needs, and why they would continue paying for it.

You will be the Product Manager responsible for uncovering these insights. Your role involves engaging with customers, utilizing the product in real AI-assisted workflows, rapidly testing ideas with our designer and engineers, and establishing the metrics to evaluate what is effective. You will collaborate closely with two small engineering teams, a senior product designer, QA, and infrastructure. You will decide which customer problems to prioritize and how to learn from the outcomes.

About You

You thrive in the early stages of a project, before answers are clear. You prefer conducting small tests this week rather than waiting for perfect data. You are comfortable in a terminal and have experience building things using AI-assisted tools, allowing you to use our product in the same way our customers do. You form your own opinions on technical claims rather than accepting statements like “it’s not feasible” or “the metric improved” at face value. You express your thoughts openly, even when it’s uncomfortable, and adjust your stance when evidence demands it. You excel in a flat team with minimal process and help others improve rather than offloading work onto them.

Responsibilities

• Conduct customer discovery for the JavaScript product through interviews, observed usage, support and event feedback, and hands-on testing.
• Collaborate with Growth and Product Marketing to recommend which customers and problems to focus on, backed by evidence of usage, payment patterns, and value.
• Shape product development with the Senior Product Designer from early discovery through testing. You define the problem and intended outcome; the designer handles the design response.
• Align outcomes and priorities with engineering squads and assist them in translating validated problems into actionable work. The squads are responsible for delivery.
• Build and deploy small prototypes, experiments, and product changes independently when it expedites learning, within the review and QA processes.
• Establish and implement product measurement in PostHog: define key actions, set up tracking, and combine numerical data with customer insights to explain what is working.
• Document learnings, decisions, and assumptions in Notion to support informed investment decisions by the team.
• Identify and escalate risks, gaps, and decisions promptly, addressing anything beyond your scope.
