Position Overview

We are seeking a visionary, human-centered Principal Product Designer to lead the end-to-end user experience redesign of our core container platform. Operating as an elite individual contributor and a design practice trendsetter, you will distill highly complex developer infrastructure workflows into elegant, opinionated design frameworks. This role requires an AI-native practitioner who seamlessly integrates advanced prototyping tools, rapid visualization, and technical synthesis models into their daily craft. Partnering closely alongside cross-functional engineering leads, product managers, and executive leadership, your strategic insights will directly steer Docker’s growth roadmap and redefine how millions of developers experience containerization toolsets.

Key Responsibilities

• Container Platform Ownership: Take absolute ownership of the end-to-end interaction design, system architecture coherence, and user experience journeys across Docker’s container platform suite.
• Workflow Simplification: Distill convoluted developer CLI tracks, pipeline configs, and infrastructure operations into highly intuitive, trusted visual solutions.
• AI-Native Design Practice: Actively leverage advanced AI and agentic tooling setups throughout the design lifecycle to accelerate rapid prototyping, user data synthesis, and layout iterations.
• Cross-Functional Consensus: Constructively challenge existing platform paradigms, collaborating with engineering and product managers to drive alignment on a unified product vision.
• Design Advocacy & Mentorship: Act as a principal mentor to senior and staff product designers, defining modern design practices across Docker and elevating the craft of the entire product division.
• Executive Strategic Alignment: Partner directly alongside senior executive leadership to translate macro business strategy into actionable, high-quality visual roadmaps.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• A stellar, documented track record influencing multi-quarter product directions and corporate engineering strategies with actionable, research-informed product design.
• Deep, extensive experience designing specifically for technical developer tools, API interfaces, cloud platforms, or complex infrastructure software products.
• Master-level operational command over human-centered design principles, systems thinking, advanced layout hierarchy, typography grids, and interaction patterns.
• Solid understanding of both qualitative user observation methods and quantitative usage data analytics to rapidly synthesize customer friction points.
• High proficiency mapping rapid user interface visualizations and working within rapid, highly iterative agile development models.
• Demonstrated capacity to quickly internalize highly complex technical domains, forming strong, logical design points of view around them.
• Exceptional visual, verbal, and written communication mechanics, with a proven ability to pitch complex UX choices clearly to senior executive committees.
• Location Context: 100% remote-first working infrastructure flexibility open to qualified principal-level design professionals residing within **Canada** or the **United States** (Docker does not offer visa sponsorship for this position).
