Monarch is a powerful, all-in-one personal finance platform designed to simplify finances for users. Since launching in 2021, they’ve become the top-recommended personal finance app by users and experts. Their mission is to reduce financial stress so users can focus on what truly matters.

The company is led by experienced entrepreneurs passionate about helping users achieve financial goals. AI is central to their operations, used as a collaborative tool to enhance decision-making, accelerate workflows, and expand possibilities. They prioritize AI fluency and curiosity over tool mastery.

Monarch is a fully remote company, welcoming applicants from anywhere. Their team collaborates synchronously from 9 AM – 2 PM PT and embraces asynchronous work to accommodate different time zones.

The Role:

Monarch is seeking a Principal, Procurement to join their Finance team during a period of rapid growth. Reporting to the Head of Operations and Finance, this senior individual-contributor role involves owning and maturing the existing procurement program, leading strategic sourcing and negotiations, and building a proactive approach to vendor and technology-spend management.

You will partner closely with Finance, Engineering, Legal, Security, IT, People, and business leaders to help Monarch make better purchasing decisions, improve vendor economics, and ensure technology spend scales efficiently.

What You’ll Do:

  • Own and continuously improve Monarch’s company-wide procurement process, including system administration for Zip, ensuring it remains efficient, scalable, and easy for teams to navigate.

  • Lead strategic sourcing and negotiations for material vendors, using market intelligence, usage data, and business context to improve pricing, terms, commitments, and overall value.

  • Build a proactive vendor-management program that provides clear visibility into contracts, spend, ownership, renewals, utilization, performance, and consolidation opportunities.

  • Partner with Finance, Engineering, and business leaders to improve the commercial economics of Monarch’s SaaS, cloud, data, AI, and other technology spend.

  • Drive adoption through clear policies, self-service resources, and employee education developed with People, while using AI and automation to make procurement faster and more proactive.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, vendor management, or technology-spend management, including personal ownership of material negotiations.

  • Demonstrated experience owning and meaningfully improving procurement processes in a high-growth technology company, ideally within B2C, subscription, SaaS, or fintech.

  • Hands-on experience administering a procurement-orchestration or comparable workflow platform, including configuring intake, conditional logic, approval routing, permissions, and reporting.

  • Experience sourcing and negotiating technology spend, including SaaS, cloud infrastructure, data, AI, or other consumption-based vendor models.

  • Experience partnering with Finance and Engineering to manage cloud or other usage-based technology spend and translate cost and usage insights into commercial decisions.

  • Strong commercial and analytical judgment, including the ability to connect spend and utilization data to business value and unit economics.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence leaders, challenge requests constructively, create clear employee guidance, and drive cross-functional decisions without formal authority.

  • A proactive, hands-on operating style and the ability to manage multiple priorities, move between strategy and execution, and bring clear recommendations to ambiguous decisions.

  • Demonstrated AI fluency: You use AI regularly in your work, have a clear point of view on where it helps and where it doesn’t, and continuously raise your own bar. You are excited to redesign procurement workflows around AI and automation—not just use AI to complete existing tasks faster.

Nice to Haves:

  • Direct experience administering Zip or a comparable procurement-orchestration platform.

  • Familiarity with AWS and Google Cloud cost structures, committed-use agreements, cloud cost allocation, or cloud-cost-management tooling.

  • Experience procuring AI models, APIs, financial-data infrastructure, or other high-volume usage-based services.

  • Experience in fintech, consumer subscription, financial services, or another regulated technology environment.

  • Familiarity with security, privacy, legal, and third-party risk-review processes.

Typical Process:

  • Recruiter video call

  • Hiring manager video call

  • Take-home assignment

  • Virtual onsite consisting of 2–4 interviews

  • Reference checks

  • Offer

Benefits:

  • Work wherever you want! As a fully remote company with no central office, Monarch wants you to work wherever you are happiest and most productive.

  • Competitive cash and equity compensation in a hyper-growth, early-stage company.

  • Stipend to set up your ideal working environment.

  • Competitive benefit plans for employees based on your location.

  • Unlimited PTO.

  • 3-day weekend every month! They take off the “First Friday” every month to focus on rest, recuperation, or fun.

Monarch Money (operating under monarch.com) is the premier, enterprise-grade personal finance management platform, modern neobanking aggregator, and collaborative wealth orchestration powerhouse engineered to operate as the definitive, high-velocity wealth tracking, multi-account budgeting, and automated cash flow analysis layer for modern households, couples, and individual investors nationwide. Founded by seasoned fintech pioneers—including Val Agostino (Mint's original product leader) and Ozzie Osman—the platform completely eliminates the severe systemic friction of traditional personal wealth monitoring—where consumers lose crucial financial momentum to broken bank connections, intrusive third-party advertisements, non-transparent data-selling models, and fragmented interfaces that isolate partners from joint household planning—by deploying an advanced, ad-free subscription delivery matrix. Moving far beyond traditional, passive spreadsheet tools or basic independent credit checkers, Monarch Money natively unifies multi-aggregator data pipelines (partnering dynamically with Plaid, Finicity, and MX), patent-pending collaborative household account sharing, real-time investment and alternative asset tracking (spanning crypto, real estate, and private equity), and an AI-driven transaction categorization engine into a single high-availability financial workspace. Capturing monumental user migration momentum following legacy market consolidations, the infrastructure processes multi-million-count real-time transaction streams and balances with production-hardened systems precision. Backed by over $95M in premier institutional venture financing—anchored by a massive $75M Series B round co-led by Forerunner Ventures and FPV Ventures, alongside returning powerhouses like Accel, SignalFire, and Menlo Ventures—the company commands market-defining authority. Under the hood, its sophisticated technical core coordinates deep programmatic cash flow visualizers, automated subscription calendars, customizable financial reporting dashboards, and strict bank-level data security protocols optimized to enforce absolute user privacy without reducing synchronization velocity. What sets Monarch Money apart is its uncompromising dedication to replacing ad-driven financial manipulation with absolute user alignment, high-fidelity ledger connectivity, and capital visibility; by bridging the gap between complex multi-institution financial systems and an elegant, actionable household workspace, the enterprise remains the definitive cornerstone of modern algorithmic wealth management and global personal finance transformation.
