Principal Engineer I - Cloud Observability

About the Role: Confluent is looking for a Principal Engineer I to lead the Cloud Observability team. You will architect and design solutions that enable cloud and hybrid customers to gain near real-time insights into the health and performance of their Confluent resources. You will drive the roadmap and ensure rock-solid reliability at 10x scale and beyond.

What You'll Do

• Lead the technology charter for observability features in Confluent Cloud and Confluent Platform.
• Architect solutions, review design implementations, and improve technical standards across the organization.
• Collaborate with product management and engineering leadership to build and drive the overall roadmap.
• Mentor a team of high-performing engineers and act as a strong technical representative for engineering teams in India.
• Handle intense customer production issues on-call, analyzing logs and metrics to mitigate and fix root causes.

What You Bring

• 15+ years of hands-on software development experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems in the cloud.
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design, concurrent programming, and multi-threading.
• Ability to anticipate future technical needs, trade-off short-term decisions with long-term goals, and iterate quickly.
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Bonus: Experience with Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, Apache Druid, OpenSearch, and solving telemetry problems (metrics, logging, traces).
