Position Overview

We are seeking a highly autonomous, systems-fluent, and reproducible-build proficient Postgres Deployment Engineer to join our core PostgreSQL squad under a permanent, 100% remote global configuration. In this high-leverage infrastructure seat, you will act as the principal architectural bridge between product development and platform reliability teams, taking complete ownership over the stability, compilation, and multi-cloud deployment vectors of our database solutions. Shifting completely away from routine non-regulated data entry logs, basic visual framework template modifications, or standard administrative script tracking, you will operate an active Nix package ecosystem with flakes, containerized multi-architecture asset bundling, and cloud machine image automation laboratory. You will share end-to-end responsibility for the public supabase/postgres engine, packaging extensions fluidly across polyglot compiler targets. This position requires an engineering authority with 3+ years of deep database systems history who handles builds natively using DevOps, Backend, and Nix primitives, communicates crystal-clearly across async, distributed squads, and takes proactive accountability for teaching advanced reproducibility principles to internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Deterministic Software Packaging: Design, maintain, and supervise declarative build pipelines inside our main database repository natively utilizing DevOps, Nix package management, and Nix flakes primitives.
• PostgreSQL Lifecycle Governance: Manage the structured lifecycle orchestration of PostgreSQL core builds, executing timely major/minor database updates and coordinating stable extension migrations.
• Platform Release Instrumentation: Expand, automate, and calibrate platform-wide release structures and self-service deployment systems to allow external developers to provision databases seamlessly.
• CI/CD Pipeline Engineering: Optimize, test, and supercharge automated compilation and staging workflows using advanced GitHub Actions configurations and integrated testing toolchains.
• Production Diagnostics & Triage: Investigate and isolate complex, low-level compilation or configuration faults across global cloud customer deployments, deploying permanent reproducible fixes.
• Multi-Architecture System Compiling: Build, evaluate, and optimize performance targets spanning multiple server architectures, specifically optimizing for Linux environments and Darwin/macOS aarch64 targets.
• Polyglot Build Orchestration: Direct compilation rules, dependency trees, and package configurations across highly varied, polyglot software boundaries (encompassing C/C++, Go, JavaScript, and Rust projects).
• Technical Mentorship & Enablement: Lead internal training programs and create documentation to mentor engineering peers in adopting, writing, and contributing to Nix-based development parameters.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• A minimum of 3+ years of proven, successful professional systems engineering history focused heavily inside a Postgres Database Engineer, DevOps Architect, Systems Developer, Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), or closely matching technical data infrastructure capacity.
• Expert Database Ecosystem Command: Deep, practical database system fluency manipulating core features, running performance optimization diagnostics, and orchestrating PostgreSQL extensions.
• Absolute hands-on mastery utilizing the Nix package management system (including Nix flakes) to author reproducible software packages and environments.
• Advanced infrastructure tool literacy managing configuration, provisioning, and virtualization layers leveraging Ansible, Packer, Docker, QEMU/KVM, AWS, and Kubernetes nodes.
• Outstanding written, verbal, and text-based narrative storytelling strengths in English, with an established history navigating asynchronous collaboration tools inside globally distributed teams across multiple time zones.
• Location Context: Position operates under 100% remote parameters open to qualified systems tool developers located Globally / Worldwide.

Preferred Strategic Indicators (Nice to Have)

• Prior technical or functional background maintaining high-concurrency public open-source software repositories or developer-facing infrastructure products.
• Grounded familiarity with vector database extensions (like pgvector), edge runtime orchestration, or relational database clustering topologies.
